Would you be able to pass the eyesight portion of the medical if your eyesight problem is corrected with glasses, contacts, surgery? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on the department...
Some don't care, as long as it is correctable.
Others say that you can have up to 20/100, as long as you can correct to 20/20.
My eyesight was pretty bad when I started applying (20/200), so that did affect the departments I sent apps to.
I agree with Not5150 it depends on the agency. Best thing to do is contact the agencies you're interested in and ask if they accept people who wear glasses. I have found that most agencies do; it's great to start out with 20/20 vision, but what happens down the road? If an older veterean officer (like me) needs glasses (see photo) is the agency going to pay for lasic surgery? Give them a call. Good Luck!Originally Posted by BPress

For the department I applied to the requirement was no worse than 20/100 uncorrected and mine is like 20/200 or so. I ended getting lasik surgery done. Best investment I've ever made. The price isnt too bad where I got it done, in Canada. Prices range from 390 to 690$ per eye. I see wonderfully now too.
But what about if you didn't pass their depth perception? My eyesight is 20/20 but I did poorly on the depth perception test. Again, any input would be appreciated.
Some departments require a specific period of time between lasik/laser-type eye surgery and hire, also.Originally Posted by kamikazejoshua

Eye sight is one of my main concerns when applying for a career in law enforcement. Mine is pretty bad, like 20/200 or something. Thats why i'm leaning towards federal instead of local law enforcement, they tend to have lower standards when it comes to eyesight.
Perhaps you're confusing the fact that they OVERLOOK things on a more regular basis ....Originally Posted by LEOWannabe

When a Laser is coming at your eye I think it's better to find the most expensive place not the least expensive place...Canada is $690 per eye because it's Canada, everything there is cheaper.
Gman, what list # r they up to on nassau countys PD test?
