Thank you for a very in depth post my friend.
I can say without hesitation that i screwed up big and used marijuana when i was in college (over the maximum amount allowed).
I did not lie in my interviews. i got DQ'd but ya know what, i really am glad that I told the truth. In a sense it is liberating. it blows my mind to hear about people that lie to get hired. I could never ever have lived with myself had I lied about drug usage.
Anyways fellas, i admired everything about LE and what you guys do. I will live the rest of my days wondering if I could have made a good cop.
It makes me really appreciate the just how the decisions we make in life truly have great consequences. I made a very stupid choice many years ago and now... well hey we move on and learn from our mistakes i reckon.
Y'all keep a doin what yer doin! I will always admire LE officers and what they do.
Cheers

1. Who in thier right mind would lie on a LE app.
2. You had the right idea trying a diferent agency but honesty with your recruiter is gonna get you a hell of alot farther than lying
3. Are you one of the dumbest SOB's on this web site or what?
I am applying to multiple agencies within the next few weeks and from the info I gather on my post in ask-a-cop I may very well get DQ due to prior use of narcotics but I figure I'll be honest and up front with my recruiter and see what happens. Any way I just wanted to say your a TOOL and wish you luck at your new career as a fry cook at MICKY Ds!!

YungBuk,
You're new here, so allow me to introduce you to the usual and random stupidity that you will read of by some of the posters on this forum. Not everyone in life, and thus some applicants for LE, are honest people, and it is why those of us who pursue LE have to go through such rigorous hiring processes. This may be the first idiot you've seen post here, but I guarantee it won't be the last  .

Thank you, Deputy Cooley for the incredible read, and the time you put in to that.

Will the officer investigating my background be able to look through the records my employers have on me? I have a folder at my current job full of achievement certificiates and only one verbal warning about sidestacks. (a merchandising thing.) 100% attendance and no lates and customer compliments

Yes...to establish what you are like as a worker/employee...this is especially important if you are coming from one police job to another.

I guess it is time to become friends with the HR. She likes chocolate. (I think a hersheys kiss will remind her to FILE my certificates as I accumulate them. She tends to forget that.)

I guess it is good in a way that none of these people who think it is so easy to lie to the police realize how a background investigation is really done.
They remind me of the people you arrest who sit in the jail cell, still thinking they are not in any trouble, because they can't figure out how they go caught.

'Police Academy' was a good movie. Can you believe that they want to remake it? Good advice, excellent post.

Very informative post, thanks for the info.
I personally liked Jones. Crazy sound effects...
On a side note I lived right across the street from the "academy" where they filmed it in Canada... It was an abandoned mental institution which is now converted in a college campus. Weirdness.....

I don’t know if this will help some of the people thinking about lying. But I was really worried about pass drug usage. But being it was 7 years ago and maybe because it was steroids and not coke they still accepted me. So my advice is don’t lie and keep your nose clean and maybe you'll get hired sooner or later!!
