Unhappy Need Help- Hitting Walls Everywhere I Go

Guys, I'm going for NYC Corrections in a week. I got DQ'd from NYPD on psych and it has completely flagged me from everything. I've hit a brick wall everywhere- I'm running out of options. Does everyone know what this Dr. Suffren is like at DOC? Do I even have a shot? Plus, it's been a year since I submitted my case to the NYC Civil Service Comm., will I even get a hearing? I think it looks dim- I was on test 1049. After 4 years in the Corps, I had a few slip ups- nothing serious. But, I just don't know what to do anymore. Will this DQ ban me forever? The battle has gone nowhere, should I just white-flag it? Any help guys, you know I appreciate it. ;)

Don't give up. I know of some cops that have failed psych, poly, background and still were able to get hired on. Just because you fail one agency, doesn't mean you have no chance with another department.

No one is perfect, everyone makes mistakes, we are not looking for saints or angels.

    Good luck to you.

I guess it depends if you are using the Bill Clinton dictionary when it comes to defining a " few slip-ups" .

Actually, not trying to be a jerk, but getting DQ'd from a department rather than just not hired is a huge red flag that you will carry with you each time you apply. If you were just not qualified enough at the time and were not hired, that's one thing. That situation will not hurt you one bit. If you really were DQ'd on the psych and it wasn't "well you're just the type of personality we're looking for" (which happens), but something that they saw and really didn't want on their department, you will have trouble getting out from under that blanket and getting hired anywhere.

i probably don't need to tell you being dq'd in NYPD for any reason, especially the psych, makes getting hired in other city agencies more difficult. considering how many applicants are processed annually, and how many are accepted (3000 +/- per year lately), you can imagine why anyone else would be hesitant to attempt to process you.

the appeal process is long, ugly, and expensive, but if you are seriously interested in law enforcement in any shape or form in lower new york, you may have to appeal that dq.

    good luck.
    welcome to the suck.

I would suggest you take another NYPD exam and don't waste your money on the appeal. I took my psych on the same day as a guy that was a psych DQ previously with NYPD. He passed the second psych and went on to the mini-medical. There also were quite a few city corrections officers processing for NYPD. Good luck.

I agree. Forgetteh appeal...waste of time and money....you already have seen that.

Why not just take the next exam and re-process?

NYC Corrections? You sure? Rikers Island or the Tombs what you want? Ever been in those hell holes? Make sure youinvestigate and talk to officers. read a few books. I get the idea that you are looking for certain career things and NYC Correctiosn is a settlement casue you can't get what you want. I wouldn't take it for that reason. It is a VERY TOUGH job, and you need to want to be there to survive.

Reprocess for NYPD and take a psych prep class to help you!
