Hey All,
I was hoping the title of this threat would catch some attention, if only for the comedy aspect of it. However it is actually a serious question I have to present to you all.
A little backround information; I am 20 years old and looking to persue a career in LE (who on this forum isn't). I attended a University for one year however did not have the finances to continue and am currently not enrolled at a college. I am a Supervisor of 10 employees at a large retailer (Best Buy) and have been with the company for almost 3 years now. I've tried marijuana twice about 5 years ago and that's it for drug use. I have also received one citation for speeding. I am in fairly good physical shape and have a good head on my shoulders as far as academics go. My question lies with one small incident in the past (like it always does)...
The incident was one night , about 3 years ago, when my friends and I were messing around with my BB Gun outside shooting soda cans. My friend had thrown a snowball at me and as a joke I took a pot shot at him with the BB Gun. Before I get too many flames, I certainly do realize this was a huge idiot mistake on my part - I honestly didn't think it would have the power to do anything however I am NOT downplaying what I did, nor am I making any excuses to the situation. A few days later my friend had to visit the hospital because of a pain in his leg and it ended up that it had actually punctured his skin. To make a long story short, my family's lawyer contacted the local PO who was handling the case and "made a deal" that I would do X amount of hours of community service in exchange for it not being prosecuted for a misdemeanor (hospital rules, gunshot wounds must be reported as I'm sure you're all aware) which I would have been fine with, because I certainly deserved it.
Anyways, my question is... is this incident (even though it didn't go through the courts) an immediate DQ to most departments? I realize the severity of the situation even though it didn't end up as much, considering the BBGUN would be considered a firearm in most places. Obviously I will be up front with any department I apply with as they're guaranteed to find it with a backround check, and I have nothing to hide. I was certainly not being a smart kid at the time and that's all there is to it.
I appreciate you all taking the time to read my long winded post, I just didn't want to leave any details out that could prove useful in "diagnosing" my situation ;)
Thanks!
-Justin
