    CPD medical exam

Can anyone tell me what the medical part of the hiring process is like for the Chicago PD? Do they administer the test or do you have your own doctor give you a physical. I'm 31 and take medication for elevated blood pressure and I hope this isn't a problem for the department. I have asked my doctor about this and he said he would clear me for the academy because I am in great shape and the medication is only precautionary due to the fact that both my parents have high blood pressure. Thanks

You will go to their doctor for your medical exam. I would suggest having a recent exam by your doctor prior to going for your medical exam by CPD, bringing all nessasary documentation, prescriptions for everything you're taking, etc.

    You shouldn't have any problems.

    Good luck, Morgan.

You will have to bring paperwork from your doctor and they will make the decision. They will take your BP there and it must be under 140 systolic, and 90 distallic(sp) Some people were over the limit, but were allowed to get tested again to see if it would go down. Overall it is a painless medical, No rubbergloves were worn  I admitt I was stressing about that , but they didn't do it. Maybe because I am not over 30?

When I did mine for CPD I saw it on the sheet of things they go through when I signed in, and I got a little worried. After they did all the tests they had me strip down to my underwear and wait for the doctor. It turns out the Dr. was in her late 20's and attractive. She pressed on my neck/back and made me walk on my heals, that was it. I didn't even get the turn and cough test. Darn!

    Precautionary medicine......I call BS.

Since when do doctors prescribe medication based upon a family history??

If you have blood pressure issues, this may be a problem. The truth would be found out by the doctor's exam and a medical release of all your records. The dept. uses a certain doctor for a reason and I can't see them accepting some other doctor's recommendation.
