Long wait for a BI to begin

I've been going through the "process" for a year now and in November they sent me a letter saying I would now go through a comprehensive background investigation. However, "it may be quite some time before you are contacted by a background investigator" I'm one of 23 recruits left. Hmmm

I wonder how long it takes an investigator to do a background, and apparently there is just one person doing it! They did a pre-back. in the begining but I don't know what that consisted of. Any ideas/comments?

Well, you didn't specify which department, or even where you are applying, so I can't give you any specific info. However, a background investigation usually takes a number of months to complete (sometimes more, sometimes less, and all depending on the size of the department and number of applicants). A quality background investigation can be complicated (and therefore lengthened) if there are any discrepancies between what you put on your background questionnaire and what they discover. Also, if you didn't put accurate and detailed information regarding past employers, references, schools attended, etc., it will make the process longer as well. Without any more identifying information about the department, or even where you are located, I can't give you any further details.

Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the presence of justice.

It's a medium/large agency in Gresham, Oregon. I have a clean background, very stable. Same house/job last 7-10 yrs. I gave them all the info they needed in my background packet to investigate back to when I was 13. I'm 36 right now so they probably need to do a little more on me than a 26 yr. old. One note on this is that I received a letter from the BI in October just wanting some "clarification" on about 5 questions they asked me on one of my tests and actually it's the same questions they asked me in the begining so maybe she started it then, but I thought they had to meet with you first and let you know they were begining one?
