should i go to the academy

about 4 years ago, i used MJ approximately 10-15 times over a 5 month period. there really is no reason other than the fact that i was acting like a braindead moron. other than that, i am a clean law-biding citizen. i really want to go to the academy and eventually enter law enforcement. is this a reality, or should i just start looking for another career? it should also be noted that my record/past is spotless, other than the MJ use, obviously. im pretty sure i know the answer but, what are my chances?

I'll go ahead and tell you that you'll have to come up with a better answer than that for your BI. An applicant that has used it so many times they can't remember how many is not going to look good. With my department, the limit is 10 times, no more. So according to your post, you have a 1 in 6 chance of even being eligible. Most departments that I know of want longer than 4 years too (usually 5 or more). Academy will help you as an applicant, but you will have to come up with a more concrete and truthful answer for your marijuana usage.

5 yrs clean with us. You need to ask the prsopective departments that you are looking at what their policy is. Many vary. And please don't say you were experimenting, you are not a scientist.

im not gonna make an excuse for using marijuana. i did it, i have to deal with it. it was purely recreational. then i realized that it was stupid and ILLEGAL and i quit. the only reason i cant remember the number of times was because i didnt count. it was a weekend thing for awhile. by the time im done with the academy it will be 5 years. thanks for the input.
