    Sick of school

Hey everyone. I am 2 years away from finishing my BA in Criminology. Lately I have started to get really sick of school and have thought about joining the Canadian Military as a regular member (either MP's or Infantry). Would this be a bad decision? My career goal has been to be a police officer but I am open to other occupations. What does everyone think?

nobody can tell you what to do. if you got bored of college after 2 years do you think you might get bored with the military? Also, regardless of what you decide I'd finish that degree. You'll never be sorry for seeing college through to the end. Neither will prospective employers in any field.

Good luck whatever you decide. I don't know how your country's military does it but I completed my bS going to school at night while I was in the Army as an MP. I had to extend my time in so I could go to a post that offered what I wanted. I'm sure the Canadian military offers something similar. Inquire with a recruiter for more info. I am very happy that I got the best of both worlds.

If your sick of school, you have to dig down deep and finish. (you are only two years away) Once you have that degree NOBODY can take that away from you, nobody. The older you get, the harder it gets to go back and finish, there are lots of people who don't have an education and wish they did. Join the military after you finish and you'll be glad you did.

I think it's a great idea that you want to quit school! Look at all the most accomplished people of our life time. Look at the commissioner of the Royal Mounted Police, the Canadian Prime Minister, etc. All of them got to their positions because they quit in life when they got tired or things got tough ( ). Look kid, you're at the half-way point in your degree program. Why quit now? Two years, no biggie. Stick it out and you'll show whatever LE agency you apply for that you can accomplish what you start. If school is getting to be too much for you, why in the h-ll do you think military bootcamp or military life in general won't be. Military life is not always non-stop action like you see on tv. If you're only goal in life is to be a grunt in the military, then drop out and go for it (nothing wrong with that if it is truly what you want to do). However, if LE is what you want, then you need something extra that every other grunt getting discharged may not have, a college degree. I saw a lot of ex-military come into our department when I worked in IA, each applying for a position. Some got hired, some didn't, but most that did had an associates or bachelors degree in addition to their military experience. I saw a number of straight-out-of-college types get hired too, with no military or LE experience. Suck it up and get your degree. It may suck now, but you'll look back and be glad you did five years down the road. Trust me on this ;) .

I think its a fairly safe assessment that nobody has ever regretted finishing school but many have regretted leaving school prior to finishing.

It is easier to finish school now than to quit and go back later in life. MUCH easier.

I have never quit...but I have been going to school and working for over 6 years now...and trust me...it sucks.

But...I agree 100% with the above. Get'r'done now. In police work you may find that the flex. schedule is not there, which will make obtaining your degree a much slower process.

I have been sick of school since my second semester, but I finished my BA program. I am now in grad school and I'm even sicker of grad than I was of undergra. I still plan to finish and even attemp a doctorate if I can find a job that will subsidize the cost of tuition.

i'm tired of school as well and have 2 years to go when i should have been finished now. it doesn't matter what you do as long as you're a person that doesn't regret their decisions. i want to be a police officer really badly, but why the rush? knowing myself i'd probably miss the time i was at school with such a career like law enforcement, going to school would probably feel like a vacation....so enjoy it while you can
