I really want to become a LEO for either traffic division or the streets on partol mabey even a CHP

i am in CA by the way

My question is my background

Heres what i can think of about my past i have smoked weed about 10 times within a year all when i was 16 yrs old then stopped after that. thats 10 lifetime uses

I drank under age occaisonally sometimes to get drunk and sometimes to just have a beer. I drank at least a 3 or 4 times each year under age.

also i smoked cigarettes under age for about 6 months then quit

i have never sold any drugs but i have told some people where my child hood friend lived to get weed. I also was in the car at the time of the purchase.

i have bought weed before also at 16.

i have not been caught for any of these i have no record except a couple of dismissed speeding tickets.

thats all i can think of.

so what do you guys think. do i have a chance or what?

im clean now and have got an AA degree from a junior college. and will take the police acdamy

oh and if it even makes a difference and stayed around the 3.0 gpa range
i graduated high school with the AG/science acdamy. its honors classes.

The MJ will be an issue, but not one that cannot be overcome. It depends on the dept. The degree and the strait and narrow will help. Time is one of your best friends.

Will be a problem with some departments, not with others. Ten times is pushing the limits of what my department would allow, but you could still be within the acceptable parameters if you had more positive attributes brought to the table (college degree, military experience, excellent work record, etc.)

This is what seperates you from all other applicants, as you are the first I've ever met who drank underage... okay that's total B.S. Don't sweat it. If you were never arrested for a drinking-related incident, did not drive while intoxicated, have grown past this, and do not currently have a drinking problem you should be okay so long as you're honest and upfront about this.

Again, not a biggie. Be honest about it and upfront.

Not smart on your part. Be honest about it, and explain how you have grown out of such behaviors by stating in detail how you've cut ties with such associations and how you've matured and realized the error of your past behaviors.

A record can help, but ultimately is not needed to determine what you've done in the past. A BI and a polygraph will do the job just fine :D . Be honest about what you've done, be upfront about it from the get-go, and above all, explain HOW you've changed from the dumb kid into the upstanding LEO applicant of today and you'll likely be okay. You will need to do a search of the hiring standards and policies for the departments that interest you regarding their limits for drug usage, some will not hire with any drug usage, but many that I know of will accept someone who tried it 10 times when they were 16 if they have grown past it and bring a lot of positive qualities to the table.

Some of these (if not all of these) things will come up during interviews and polys (if applicable), etc. Be honest and sincere like everyone said. Do some searches on this forum for more information on the subject as it has been raised many times before.

Ten times using marijuana will DQ you from some LE jobs, but not all. If you want it bad enough, I think you could find a good LE job somewhere with that background if you are not leaving anything out.

My recent experience with the CHP was as follows.

In 2000, I applied and got to QAP(oral board) Truth verification came before the oral and I was honest. The last time with MJ use was 10.31.99. First time was mid Sept of said year. Max times was 5. Women, I swear Got dq'ed and told to come back.

Re-applied, and the freeze hit.

Freeze over, just went through oral back in Nov. Same reply on Truth Verification form and was very open on during the oral re: MJ use. Explained who what when where why and how stupid it was, and explained where I was to where I am now. They did not seem to mind, and the Sgt. even made a positive comment about the honesty displayed. I won't go into details, as I am not allowed to, but its seemed good and the letter stating I passed oral seems good too...Now, the wait.

Again, that's correct.

You are with some that I know of, but not with my department (though 10 or 12 I believe is the max for our department for what they will consider "experimental use")

Both my BI and my polygrapher wanted numbers, specific and with details of when the incidents occur, for any of these type of questions. They aren't looking for, "well I first tried it at exactly 0913 hrs on 13 June 1998 at 40 degrees latitude by 135 degrees longitude". Be specific, but give your best estimate as far as the when and where. Don't make it harder than it has to be.

Many applicants are able to keep track of it because they've never done it. Since you have used marijana, the burden is on you to come up with the when, where, how and why of the incident. You have to prove that you don't exceed their policy, not the other way around. Like I said above, use your best estimate.
