    Austin PD update

Well tomorrow is our PT. The obstacle course doesn't sound too bad and the 1.5 mile time is 15 min 8 seconds so I'm not worried about that. This past Friday was the written exam, weapons test, and some paper work.

The written test was pretty straight forward, out of 156 points you had to get an 86 to pass. I got a 153, so I was pretty excited and I hope this helps streamline my way along the process. The weapons test was pretty easy as well, no one had problems. I was surprised that we did the test in the recruiting office, although they did check once to make sure the handguns and shotgun were empty. ;)

I know that for promotions seniority as well as testing is a big factor, but what gets an officer to detective and other more senior positions?

Aren't we the just the little eager beaver? JK :D

Oh, and to answer your question: usually you have to put in a set amount of time (determined by dept.) & test for the specific position you are going for (which typically involves a lot of studying/reading up). And there's usually an oral review board of some sort. At least at my department.

Very good score... I scored a 139 (OR VERY close to that) on that same test and I made it through no problem. As long as you don't have any "issues" ...I think you you be just fine.

I'll be out there tommorrow, but I doubt we'll talk. I know we are going to be pretty busy with practicals...

GL... The course and run should be no sweat if you are in decent shape.

PT went fine, I finished the OC in 1:55. There was only one guy who didn't pass. He just started off way too quick and didn't have anything left on the dummy pull. That part was tough due to the ground being sandy and a lot of small pebbles. One girl finished with enough time but got sick after to the point that they called EMS. Luckily they didn't transport her and she found enough strength to do the 1.5 mile under 15. I went a little too hard on the OC and was dead for the run, finishing the 1.5 mile in 13:46. I probably saw you as a group of us went into the locker room to change after and there were a lot of cadets milling around that area and outside.

Anyways, I'm back to working on my BI. I don't have any issues, just a lot of information to gather regarding student loans. Private universities = lots of federal student loans. Luckily with most of my loans, if I go into public service (i.e. law enforcement) they write off around 50% of your loan balance after a year of employment. So hopefully my debt load won't be a negative on my chances as I have always kept in good standing with creditors.
