I am somewhat concerned about what I feel may be my only weak spot in my application - my background. Here's a little bit of history:
When I was 16, I was arrested for possession of a destruction device (M-80)
When I was 16, I was arrested for underage possession of alcohol
When I was 18, I was arrested for aggravated assault
All of the charges were dismissed without any plea deals, temporary probation, etc, and later expunged.. The aggravated assault charge was for a fight I was involved in at the age of 18, where I left the scent of the incident afterwards (didn't think it was a big deal at the time), but which I acted in self defense (hence, the grand jury handed down no indictment.
Since my days of youthful indiscretion (I am 25 now), I have earned my Bachelors of Science in Computer Science (3.45GPA) in only 3 years due to summer classes, I was commissioned as an Air Force Officer (communications), I earned my Masters Degree in Information Technology (3.87GPA), and I have totally stayed out of any kind of trouble while earning Company Grade Officer of the Year honors with the Air Force, several medals, and an honorable discharge. I also held a Top Secret-SCI clearance with the US Air Force.
I understand how competitive the process can be, and I am worrying that these events in my teenage years may be what will eliminates me. My recruiter said it could prob go either way, and the oral interview panel questioned me on these incidents, to which I responded accordingly. When asked if I had any questions for them, I asked them "Is there anything to do to increase my chances of being selected in the future if I am not selected this time, specifically if there is anything I could do to demonstrate that I have matured since my earlier indiscretions". They responded that my background speaks for itself. I am not sure if that was a good comment or a bad comment (for me), but they did tell me on the spot that I obviously passed the oral interview and they feel I am a strong candidate.
From my understanding, some brass from the DEA will review my completed backgroung app prior to offering a final offer of employment, for adjudication purposes, and that they will weigh my background against my other applicant attributes.
What do you all think my chances are on this matter? Do you think my earlier arrests will limit my opportunities with the DEA or other fed agencies? Do you think I will need to allow more time to pass? Do you think I have demonstrated the necessary maturity to allow them to overlook my past criminal arrests? This is not a joke, this is just me seeking opinions on overcoming past indiscretions. I am not talking about quitting drugs 5 months ago like some of these trolls, I am talking about staying exceptionally clean for about 7 years.
