    Question Strictly Curious..

Lot of NYC police threads here. Are they hiring like crazy or something ? Someone said they are hiring alot. I live in Florida and not going to live in NY but I was just curious. Dont have time to read the thousands of posts which may hold the answer to my question, just wanted to know the status and how everyone is doing, what their requirements are, salaries, etc... Best of luck to all of you, my brothers and sisters wherever you are, pursuing the badge like me......TaylorMade18

Wow a sergeant earns an average of over $90,000 a year for NYPD. Thats awesome. Hats off to all of you who are in or trying to get on with NYPD. Sounds like a great agency. Cant even imagine the trials of a police department covering an area that big and populated.

You MUST consider the cost of living in or anywhere near NYC in your awe of the salary. It is EXPENSIVE to live in that area. My base pay as a Sgt. is 67K which doesn't include OT or holiday pay but my cost of living is MUCH less.

Has anyone noticed that NYPD website does not say exactly what the starting salary is? It talks of overtime and other things to which an officer then on an average make approximately $44,000.
Now think of the city, state and fed tax that one will have to pay, not to mention the ridiculous sales tax and cost of living of NYC.

Oh, I changed my mind then. I've only got 7 in and am doing 58 base. That's the ONE think I love about the federal system is that we have real good pay for LE. Plus our OT is double time so it doesn't take as much work.
