    Unhappy Major Bummer

    Got my first rejection today. Didnt get the scholarship to go to the academy from the local sheriff's office. Only selected 25 people; my BI called me today and said if there had been 30 selected I would have made it. Told me about paying my own way, next scholarship dates, detention officer and reserve possibilities. Good news is I still have an interview and a chance with the city police department next week so Im still alive with them. My plan now is to not give up and keep plugging away, hope for the best with the city and start saving money to put myself through the next available dates. Little discouraged, but also encouraged that I made it to the final cut with not one single day of law enforcement training. Thanks for all the advice and posts you have all provided; will keep in touch......

    You were right on the cuff, eh? Your BI probably tells everyone that didn't make it that. No offense.

    Of the 50 or so that did NOT get selected, she said she only called 3 to tell them that they are on the "alternate" list. I was one of those. I guess if those who were selected fail any part of the post hire testing, I will be called as an alternate. She said since the competition was so stiff for so few spots is the reason I didnt get picked. If I had submitted my application and my test scores along with certification as if I had already been through the academy for a regular deputy position I would have made it. Her exact words were, "You will be a LEO some day, you just may have to wait a little longer for it then you wanted." Again, some encouragement and fuel for me to continue plugging away. I know I will make it, I feel confident of that. Its been a great learning experience so far in every way. Again, thanks for the feedback....

    I took tests for 2 YEARS before I got hired ! Keep at it. The job shouldn't be easy to get or the wrong people would get the job.

    Speaking of that interview I have next week, my BI said it will take all day, 8-5. Any ideas why ? Will they possibly do my polygraph, psychological and fingerprinting all in one day ? Just my assumption. Wondering if anyone else ever went to an "all day" interview ....

    I'm not sure how they do things but I would think that meant you would have to wait through the other interviews. I don't think they would schedule your polygraph, etc., in the same day. Just my opinion but good luck to you. If you show initiative and let them know you really want the job, that is a plus for you.

    Yuck, Ivan was a bad one- hope you made out OK. We got a little lucky here north of Tampa, although we got the outer portions of Charley, Frances and Jeanne when all was said and done.

    OMG! I know!!! Glad you weathered it. We got a direct hit of a catagory 4 storm. I am in the process of having my house rebuilt so I am right there with ya! There are two things I don't ever want to see again in my life. One is carpet and the other is shingles! I got a metal roof and wooden floors.

    Are you, by chance, in Taylor County?
