    NYS Police Study Guide

Does anyone know of any good websites to order a Study Guide for the NCJOSI Exam for the NYS Troopers...other than the one posted on the NYS Trooper website?

You really want to get a jump start on the next test!!!! The best study guide is the one offered on the website. This last test was a new style test compared to the previous tests. The next test date is not yet known and the type of test to be given is also unknown at this time. Good Luck

Dr, Are you thinking about taking the military supplemental that is still being offered for activate duty personnel or about a future test 3-4 years from now?

Check on the NYSP web site and click the link to recruiters. They should be able to hook you up.

    Dr. Ruth -

I found that other study guides were real good for other tests, like NYC PD but did not help me too much for the last NYSP which I took in March. Some of the skills, like reading comprehension still apply to the NYSP test but some things that weres on the NYSP test that were not in the study guides or other tests were long division, equations involving fractions, and percentages. The other guides I looked at only talk about simple addition, subtraction, and multiplication if I remember correctly. So, if you use the Barrons' (for example) study guide, and dont have a problem with the additional math I mention above then you should be ok. Also, there are some things which you really can't study for on the NYSP test such as spelling, and the personality questions.

agreed -- the online study guide is about 16 pp. total, with a lot of instruction/explanation and very few practice questions.
however, for the 3/04 test many recruiters offered study sessions for their respective troops which included a more in-depth practice exam -- perhaps they would be able to provide you with a copy of it if asked.

Good point. I heard they went through a practice exam at these sessions. The next NYSP test is probably a couple of years away, and by that time they might offer the classes again.
