I had this happen to me when I was applying. The company was a franchise, so they contacted corporate HQ and got copies of my employment records. The BI will try to acertain as much info about you as possible, so if there are no records (ex: if you worked at a ma and pa shop that went out of business), they will move on to the next source of info. If it was a franchise or chain that you worked for, offer the contact info for their corporate HQ if you can find it (yellowpages.com is a good place to start).Originally Posted by sir112

My new hero!
yea, it is a ma and pa shop.
As long as ma and pa aren't dead, it doesn't take much effort to find them and talk to them about you. If the closed store has ever requested any kind of police activity, there will be a report somewhere with a name & other information on it. Once they get that, it doesn't take much to find a current address/telephone number. Ma and pa are usually easier to get info from as well, becease they're not beholden to the big-corporate "dates of emplyment only" line.

If you know the names of the owners, look them up in the phonebook (White Pages) and politely ask their persmission to be a referrence to you. Remind them of who you are, explain that you are in the BI process to become a LEO, and ask if they would mind being contacted by a BI for employment reference purposes. If were a good employee (and they were good owners) they will likely not have a problem with this. To me, this kind of action would show that you are candid and forthcoming with your background information.Originally Posted by sir112
