I am 21 years old, I was arrested when I was 19 for having a chalked i.d., and my license was suspended once for speeding. I have a B.A. in psychology. Do I have a shot at nypd?
feedback would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

you shoudve posted this in one of the other gazillion NYPD threads onthis board, Now ppl are just gonna flame you for not doing so and You'll probably never get a definete answer
good luck
first of all was it your id or someones elses? secondly was the charge crim poss of a forged instrument felony or misd and what was the disposition in court. also for your suspension was it suspended for 3 speeders within a 12 month period or were you going like 110mph. to get the right answer you have to provide more details
my id was chalked, and it was a misd, i had to pay a 200 fine for that. i have had 2 speeding tickets one for going 84 in a 55, the other one was 86 in a 65; 1 seatbelt violation; and 1 traffic violation for disobeying pavement markings. The 84 in a 55 was my most recent ticket and the judge suspended my license for 45days and fined me $450.

they might give you a hard time with the arrest considering it was so recent. the license suspension will also be a prob unless it was around the time you were 17 or 18. but lucky for you the hiring standards are very lax now due to the fact that no body wants this job anymore and i dont blame them. back when i came on more than one moving violation at any time was considered an automatic DQ. you got nothing to lose go for it
I called a background investigator with nypd the other day (xxx-xxx-xxxx) to ask them about a felony investigation on my background. She said to go through the process anyway, "you never know" she said. She said they allow some people through, even with arrest records.Originally Posted by long cut

I'm tired of hearing about what discipline peoples' BA/BS are in. I don't think the NYPD cares what your major is..it won't make you more/less favorably looked upon. At the PO level they want to see 60 credits...In anything (underwater basketweaving). Having a BA in something related to L.E. isn't going to erase blemishes on your background. Good Luck its worth a try to see if they will take you. I'd say your borderline.
Longgreens, do you dislike education, or are you afraid that more people with higher education are trying to get into the profession? I am sure you are aware that standards will quickly change if everyone and their mother applying to become leos are getting bachelor degrees. Granted, the published minimums will not change, but the actual hiring standard will be increased just a bit.
It is no secret that the higher the education level, the higher the chances of getting in. By no means am I saying that a degree will erase any negative history. However, it does give a competative advantage to those who do not have a shady past over those who do not have a degree.
