Which comes directly from an anti-polygraph website. That type of discussion is not tolerated here.Originally Posted by LEX33

Stop thinking about specific questions that you may be asked. If you're nervous about it, my advice is to speak with a local cop friend about what it was like when they took it. Many municipalities run different type of polys. Eg...some hand you a list of 10 question, ask you to review them, then ask you those questions twice while hooked to the box. Others ask questions that the hiring PD wants asked with follow-ups. Others don't care what is asked, just as long as the state requirement is fulfilled(before the lynching begins...I'm not saying PDs don't care, just that if the state requires certain questions be asked of all candidates, then that's good enough(for now) for many of the PDs) MG, you'll be fine. Know this, that most of these polys ask the same type of questions...Drugs, Alcohol & Driving, Theft, Cheating..etc.

The part which most dont realize is that when you go into it, before you are hooked up to any machine you have a CONVERSATION with the poygrapher about all these questions. They are not yes or no. You have a chance to explain, in your own words that, for example, "I've never written a bad check, but knowing that a check would clear in 2 days, and that the money would be there in a few hours - I wrote the check." When you are hooked up to the machine you will be asked some of those questions over again as well as some general questions, etc.
Think of it as an interview where the polygrapher is just ttrying to get an idea of who you are. The machine is just a tool to help him/her with that. If you know you are OK, then you will be OK. I am no saint, but I was honest. I did fine.
Yup i heard about that, but still my checks are good by the time they get there :DOriginally Posted by Odin
Yeah, I just found out the hardway. I made seven payments online and did not have enough to cover them all that day, but I did it anyway because my direct deposit was coming in at midnight of that day. I got slapped with five overdraft charges.Originally Posted by Odin

I think it varies by department as well. At one point I was attempting to get into the FHP Auxillary before I decided to make a career change and pursue LE full time. Went to a few of their new recruit meetings where they explain the process to you. And what all of the Auxillary troopers told us was they have you fill out your application packet that they said is very similar to the ones a Full Time Trooper fills out, and that when you go for your poly, they just ask you the same questions from your packet a few times over to look for inconsistancy in your answers. Anway's, thats just my experiance. Others may differ.

The questions worded in that way: I can answer no only to #2.
BTW, the float will disappear in a couple of years, so gone will be the days when you can write a check hoping that a future paycheck will cover it.
Being nervous or anxious won't really affect your test results. The examiner hooks you up and takes some readings to create a baseline of your reactions prior to asking any questions so that takes into account any nervousness. Thats how it was explained to me at least.
Oh re: the sex questions, all I was asked about was illegal sexual activities (prostitution, child porn, etc.)
