    How does distance affect BI

I was wondering if anyone knew how much distance usualy affects the background check/hiring process. I am looking at a couple agencies that are a 1,000 miles or more away from anywhere I have ever lived or went to school. One is over 1,500 miles. Does it take a lot longer? Are they more less or equally thorough in the process.

Also, does any one know if Portland Oregon even uses a polygraph or CVSA. I looked at their website and it does not list it. I thought all departments used something. Then again, I'm just starting to apply.

    Thanks.

I live in south Florida and have completed nearly all the steps for the NYPD in less than a month. It all depends on how serious you are about getting the job and how much you're willing to sacfrifice to get it. I think you'll find that all departments are very thorough in their screening process but not all use a poly or CVSA (NYPD dosen't). Good luck!

I didn't find distance made any difference. Unless you are traveling for the test that might make a difference. (short time between getting the letter and testing date) I just got a conditional offer with the Tigard Police Department, which is a suburb of Portland Oregon, (Just the psyhological left) and I moved out here in July from Minnesota. I also have passed the BI for Washington County, which borders Portland, and have an active BI with the Oregon State Patrol. It just takes a little longer to get letters back from your references, but doesn't make the hiring process any longer. I took the writen test for the Tigard Police Department in September. I know Portland takes about a year to get through the hiring process at least it did for my friend. None of my background investigators ever said anything about the distance.

    Where are you moving from?

No department in Oregon can use a Poly and I'm not sure what CVSA is. Most departments out here just have the writen, physical, Oral Board, BI, final interview, and psychological. Some in different orders.
