I would go through the process, being totally honest and assuming responsibility for your shortcomings. I think that if you get hired that will be great, but even if you don't, it would show up as an indicator of your continued interest if you were to re-apply at age 34, as Joeyd6 suggested.
I also agree that you should not only own up to what you did wrong, but you still have positive points to offer as well, such as your work as a youth leader and your strong spiritual beliefs. If you do well in the interview, you may find yourself offered a position.
