To be honest...Hi-tec's they sell around here are CRAP. You feet will be wet, cold and hurting...and...you will wear out teh soles very quickly. Go with Danner or Rockey. If you want 1 pair for all year, go with a pair that is all leather, waterproof and thinsulate lined. Some guys have teh "jungle" boots whihc are 1/2 leather and 1/2 canvass. Without ten stories, I can tell you, I have personally seen all leather prevent someones broken ankle from being displaced and a acid burn go right through the material uppers on my partners boots but I escaped without such burns. Be prepared to drop $150 to $250 for a pair.

As for the gloves, NOBODY here wears just leather gloves. We buy a pair of leather "searching" gloves with kevlar lining. They get tucked behind our handcuff case between our trouser belt and duty belt. They only come out when it is search time. For general wear and warmth, we all use Hatch Winter Specialist gloves or teh Rockey Winter Thinsulate Golve. They are neoprene, waterproof and thinsulate lined. Very warm and very dry. They also allow you full use of your hands for your duty belt and gear. Nobody here wears leather gloves on patrol of a foot post.

    Hope that helps!

-just got graduation tickets today - seats are assigned, ceremony start time posted on ticket. anyone have extras? ;)

-i would not recommend hi-tek or ridge boots. i can recommend bates boots - i bought a model (m6?) that has both goretex and thinsulate, pretty light, slightly ugly and not exactly cheap at $125. i expect to be doing lots of walking in the cold this winter, so it was easy to justify the expense.

thanks joey for the tips on graduation, and the recommendation on gloves.
    welcome to the suck.

Just a FYI on those tickest folks....every class has seast listed on them....and every graduation...people sit where they want on a first-come, first-served basis. So tell you family to be ON TIME!

R u sure about this no one has mentioned that yet... my family has pretty crappy seats. I want them to come early and try to get better ones. I think it went on how well your company did on the exams, so im guessing we didnt do that well. My family has seats in the 400's. Let me know..thanks...

Unless they do things different for you class....but I worked the last three ceremonies and everyoen did what they want.....but I guess it may also depend on the crowd.

well my company ranked top 5 in the academy and I got seats in the 100's so i'd appreciate it if they get to sit in their assigned seats and not have someone take them.

The whole grades vs. quality of seat thing is 100% brand new with your class folks. Other yeasr had specified seast but when we worked...we would just tell people to sit anywhere. Maybe this year will be different. We have not be given "instructions" yet on what they want us to tell folks as they come in yet. I will let you knwo when we get them.

personally I think its messed up, my average is in the 90's but the majority of my company are not very bright. They did however study their asses off, in fact they worked harder than I did considering I never studied, after the first exam i stopped taking notes. I feel that because they are just not book smart or not good test takers shouldnt take away from the fact that they did work their asses off. It should be first come first serve, we all worked hard, some alot harder than others. I know guys pullin 70's who didnt go out on weekends for weeks before the exams studing and giving it their all. Then there's guys like me who didnt do **** (academicly) and I can pull 90's on the exams whilst nursing a hangover. Besides whats that gold rope on ur shoulder gonna mean 2 weeks from now, absolutely nothing. Id rather work with the 6 ft 200+ lb guy from the south bronx whos not a great test taker, than the 4 ft 11 girl from huntington long island who got a 98 overall average

I can see your point, but it would be nigh impossible to assign seating based on each individuals performance. Also, when in the real world does effort rather than result get rewarded? (cop: gee boss, I let the perp get away, but I tried really hard. sgt: Thats ok, you put in such a good effort, put yourself in for an award).

Im not trying to be a smartazz, but thats the way life works. No one cares whether what you did was easy or hard. They just care about the results. You may also find that sans hook, results alone dont mean all that much, save promotional exams.

I see where your coming from as well, I wasn't asking for seating based on individual performance. I think the fairest way is first come first serve, and as for real world, heh, well I dont think theres much in the academy that applies to real world.
Also my apologies for my potty mouth on the previous post, its a terrible habit.
