To wait or not to wait - that is the question
As some of you know, I recently applied an was turned down for a LEO job. I have been told by the HR folks that even though I did not receive this position, they have a "feeling" that a few more will be open within a couple of months. He also said that I would be eligible for an Academy coming up in May (work for free for 1 year) and to just be patient. This information was also included in the formal letter sent to me in the mail. It was not a "form letter".
I do not feel like this department would say these things (as they owe me nothing) and then string me along. I passed my exam, and (so I am told) my BI.
My Question: I have heard that some other departments in the area are under-staffed and are in need of deputies. Should I wait on this opening (this is my first choice) or try somewhere else that I may not have to wait on for a year or more?
My biggest dilemma is that I don't want to hire on with another department and then turn around and quit to go with my first choice in a short time period. I do not feel this is a good way to treat a department who has spent money to train you. All opinions will be greatly appreciated.
