You'll be fine....just as long as none of what was said was proven to be true. Stay honest and focused........one question, why CHP? All you'll do is issue sites, take traffic collision reports and take DUI's. If you really want to fight crime, go with a PD in a fast station. Whatever you do, good luck.

Try using the Shift key and some punctuation here on the forum if you want anyone in the masses to pay attention to you, included my dumb ***. Also, be honest throughout your process. Glad to know that you've come to terms with the wife, but if there were problems in the past, it's best to tell all when the questions are asked.

Keep in mind, I'm just another candidate here looking for something closer to the truth. And I'm going through the process as you, just to get hired. Once hired, it's even more hell to keep your job. Are you up to that?

Keep charging....provided this is what you really want.

Yep, and for many that gets real old too. Why are the fastest stations always the least senior? Because when it gets old, most bail and go to a slower station where they don't have to "fight" as much crime. It happens over and over again in big cities throughout America. Big departments try to figure out how retain more senior officers in busy stations because for many their afternoon and midnight shift is staffed with people with less than 6 years on.

Some people want to work for a highway patrol, I say God Bless Them, because they are definitely necessary, and you seem to be demeaning their worthwhile tasks. I am sure CHP does more than issue "cites," take crash reports, and handle DUI's.

CHP actually replaces local law enforcement in some areas. Specifically, I remember when Antelope, CA was unincorporated land within Sacramento County. At that time (before the county sheriff setup shop) CHP units would patrol neighborhood streets, respond to house calls, etc.

Not at my station, we have many senior officers. The ones that leave early are the ones that come to fast stations to say they were assigned to a fast station, kinda like some people go into law enforcement for the money but not the passion and end up being miserable and end up quiting. I'm not puting down CHP, but I always encourage new officers to pick a fast station or agency in the beginning. Not only will they experience the adrenaline rush, but will also be better trained to never get laxadasical on any call or t-stop. Most of my friends that are Chipies, have lateralled over from a different agency. The number of new recruits going to CHP is far less than any that apply to a PD. I love the Chipies, we are in an unincorporated area of South Central Los Angeles and they take all our traffic related incidents out of our hands. I would never put down another brother of mine.

We have the "street credibility" officers too. The officers who come to fast districts to say "I spend blah blah time in 011 blah blah blah and now I am qualified to do any job in the department." How much time do your senior officers have on the job? Do you have contractual bidding rights or do you have to ask management for a transfer? If you can't bid and depend on management, it could be that some of your senior officers are stuck there.

No, no one is ever stuck. We are a large department have over 30 stations not including other specialized teams that one can go to should they desire to. Normally a transfer can take anywhere from 1 week to 3 months. Most of the guys at my station have been here anywhere from 5 to 15 years.

I have a friend who is CHP and he loves it. Of course all our other law enforcement friends tell him he's basically AAA with a gun.

Yea, unfortunately that's the rap they are stuck with. The way I see it is, those guys are great at part of law enforcement that we all run away from...that's anything to do with traffic.

From what I've read in other threads, it surprises me that some LE in the west regard CHP that way. I know TN Highway Patrol (THP) does mainly traffic, DUI's, and such, but they are bad ***!! I'm a cop and every time I see that brown car in my rear view mirror I still get scared. For those that look a little down on CHP because of their primary job, just remember those folks that get arrested by them definitely don't think the same way. They have the same powers and hook em up just the same as any other agency. Stay safe ;)
