    Exam 4004/Medical question

    Hello,
Just took NYPD exam 4004 today and thought I did real well. I'm a worried about the medical though. I have a herniated disc in my lower back from a car accident about 5 years ago. There was a lawsuit and I received a small settlement. I work out 4-5 days a week focusing on strengthening my back. I feel great and really want this. I'm 24 and hoping to make this a career. Background is clear, no drugs, college, have a couple tickets for no blinker and a stop sign which I hope is not that big of a deal. Pretty sure everything else is in check. What are my chances? Thanks.

I took 4004 today as well in Brooklyn at James Madison HS. I think I did really well also, except that on one part of the test, one of the sections with the streetmap had questions that did not correspond with the map they gave. Everyone's booklet was the same, and we're all going to have to dispute it on Nov. 10th. Other than that it went really well.

I had microsurgery on my right shoulder a few years ago, because it kept dislocating from an old obstacle course injury, and I've been concerned that it may hold me up in medical processing as well, but after speaking to a few cops and doctors, they told me that as long as it's not a problem now, it shouldn't be a big deal.

For your back, I'd get some MD's to make sure you're okay, and then go ahead with the medical exam. As long as you're doing okay now, and continuing to work out (I'm glad to see that you're stretching too!) I don't think you'll get into a bind.

    Best of luck!

Does your back hurt you now that you do any physical activities? If not then dont worry about it. But you would still need to report the incident. I had a dislocated right shoulder, which is my shooting side 1.5 years ago and now its all healed....and they just asked me if it happened again..and I said no..and that was it....passed! As long as it doesnt bother you and you are able to do everything a cop needs to do....you should be fine....just state that you have been working on your back....but the medical will be called like 2 months before the next class.....since you took yours today.....u will most likely be called for the next July class in 2005.

    re:

Thanks everyone. NYPD2005, I hear u with the map. I think is was the first one the gave right? If we protest it, is it possible to get some extra points?

3AZNCOPS: I don't think I have all the paperwork. So I should get everything I can before I go to the medical?

djtwreck: Well, we're in the same boat. Mine happened in 99 and I received all types of physical therapy for about 2 years. After that , I was told to always stretch then strengthen. I was working out at the physcial therapy office, then after consulting with my doc I started the gym on my own. I detail cars for a living and you need a very strong lower back to do this. Good luck with your medical. I'll be rooting for you. Let me know after it's all said and done.

I didnt bring any paperwork with me about my injury.....you just fill out a sheet with all the injuries you ever had and then describe the injury. During the exam...you will be in a room with 12 half naked candidates and then they tell you to hop on one feet and walk backwards and touch your toes and all. Then he checks one person at a time and reads what you put down on that sheet and he asks you if its still reoccurring. Thats about it..if its a major issue, he will ask you to return with documentation. Fortunately...my injury wasnt that bad and all he asked me if I have gotten a 2nd dislocation and I said no and then he said goodbye! Its really simple and short.....aint a real physical like you got one from a medical doctor...he is a MD but a short version of the exam.

I think that if we go to the Protest session on Nov 10th (location & times are on the back of the yellow key sheet you could take home from the exam) we should be able to get credit for the 3 map questions that were messed up. If you go to some of the old exam answer keys online, you can see that some of the answers are "B and/or C" so that's probably from someone protesting about them.

Just looked at my paperwork now and just so you guys know, you can find the key score online starting November 8th at:
    http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcas/html/examkeys.html

If you want to protest, as the yellow sheet says, you can do so by going to the protest session in person or by mail. To do so in person, you must appear at the NYCDCAS test center, 26 Washington Street, Manhattan (north of battery park) on NOV 10th, between the hours of 9AM and 12NOON. Bring yourself (no buddies), Your yellow key sheet from the test, personal ID, a black pen, a self addressed stamped legal size envelope, and any reference material you wish. All handwritten notes are forbidden.

You can also protest by mail, and those longer instructions are on the back of the yellow sheet, but if anyone needs them PM me or email me and I'll get them for you.

Some folks from 4004 have received their info. Some of the 4004 candidates are either done or almost done with getting on the ready to hire list. NYPD2005, with a score that high, you should have been contacted. I would call DCAS immediately if not sooner. Good Luck.

4004/313 - I scored about the same as you - 4 questions wrong + the 5 points. I've finished everything but the agility/run test. You definitely should have been contacted already. I got home from T-giving vacation on Friday to a letter in the mail telling me to report to the academy Saturday @ 6:30 am. No phone call though. Possibly, your letter got lost in the mail?
