Hi all, I was wondering if anyone one knows what happens after the Background interview for Chicago. Do you have another interview as a wrap up to the investigation. Do they call you and tell you you passed? Or do I have to wait untill I get a letter in the mail telling me I passed or was passed over. Just getting a little on edge by the waiting (its killing me). I do not think I made the NOV academy but are they going to continue their pace by having academies every month? Also when does a test expire, Is it after three years? Thanks

There is always calling the dept. for the answer. Just don't give a name if you think you may ask a dumb question.

Usually you get a letter in the mail for the next step in the process. As far as I know, there is supposed to be several classes in succession but that can change at any time. When I went though, the final step was the power test where they would then give you a notice to report for training.

No I did not "just forget it all." On this point they gave me no information. The detective told me that she would be done with the background fast. Now I want to know if they are going to call me, write me a letter, or meet with me again to let me know if I passed. I had to check my mailbox for over a year to even get the letter saying my background was starting. It is my understanding that many people have been cleared to get into the academy and It could be awhile before I can get in. Am I going to have to go through another year of checking the mailbox? I was asking people who were experienced in the process so I could AVOID calling them. They do not like getting called, trust me, and I dont want to bump my file even lower on the list. Thats why this board is a good tool so I do not have to call.

well, should I re-tell my story? The one where my background from my test in Jan of 03 was in Feb of 04. Then that investigator was transferred and my new investigator did not get around to a re-interview until the end of last month, where I was told everything submitted needed to be updated - everything - and turned in by Friday? And it was already Tuesday? lol. Now I'm waiting some more.

They mail you a letter like they have before giving you the date of the last POWER test. If you are done with the background and have passed it then you are thrown on the pile for the POWER test and then the academy. Remember that it is Chicago, and lots of things can pop up to change situations.

I don't understand how you guys can wait around for so long. Personally, I specifically attract to those departments who swear their process is no more than 2 - 3 months ;)

Some people grow up their whole lives wanting to be a FBI agent, DEA agent, State Trooper ect... All I have ever wanted to do is to be a cop in the best city in the world, Chicago! No one said it was going to be easy, but I have given everything I got and am ready for a challenge.
