Just Applied for Oct NYPD exam

Just applied for the NYC exam on October 23.

Have any of you worked with NY cops that worked as actors before the joined the force?

I've had a successful career out here as an actor, but lately have heard a "higher calling" so to speak. I'm 29 with a Bachelor's degree, a wife and a child, and while I think I would make a great cop, I'm a little apprehensive about the response from the NYPD when they discover I've been reciting Shakespeare for the past 7 years.

Anyone here ever worked with anyone with a background similar to mine?

Nope, but your reports will definitely be interesting with a splash of Shakespeare. "Where forth art thou stolen vehicle?" Sorry, couldn't resist. What do you "offer" the police profession besides the ability to "act"? Seriously. What do you bring to the table as an LEO candidate?

7 years of experience living in the real world and raising a family within the community I'd be serving. A strong desire to contribute to society and make a bigger impact within the community I live in. I know it sounds cliche, but it's the truth. I've been living in NYC for the past two years and I love it here. They need good people for the police force, and I'm a pretty well-rounded individual that's well educated and gives a damn about what goes on around me.

You sound motivated and driven to serve. All I can say is.....go for it! You'll find lot's of support on this board from folks that are working towards employment with the NYPD. Believe me, there's no shortage of input.

    Celtic,
I am also 29 years old and married and I took my exam in June and recieved my list number a couple of days ago. I currently work in investment banking but I also feel that I want a career where I can make a difference. Its good to hear that I am not the only one changing careers at 29.

You're definitely not. I'm 28 years old and audit for a big 4 CPA firm. I'm taking the October exam as well. My reason for the career change is exactly the same as yours. Does anyone know if we take the October exam, will we be eligible for the January academy, or will it be the next one (probably in July).

it will probably be the next class because I took mine in June and scored a 97 without the 5 points for being a NYC resident and I am just starting my process. I am list number 60 so I hope it moves along quickly and I get in the Jan class.
    Good Luck in October.

I'm not planning on attending the tutorial. My current employment work schedule is to demanding to make it into the city. I am using the Baron's Police Officer Exam review book, which uses the NYPD exam as its base. Its pretty helpful.

I bought a book in Barnes and Noble, the name is: Police Officer Exam New York City and Nassau County
    by: Learning Express

The book has alot of practice questions which prepares you for what you will see on the actual exam. Just take the exam slow and read each question carefully and you will do fine, remember it is not a race.
    Good Luck

Guys let's stay on the 3047 thread. We have too many NYPD threads.

Well, I understand the 3047 request, but I thought maybe starting a new one for people taking the 4004 would prevent confusion.

    Thanks for the info, BTW

    Hi,

Does anyone know what time of day this exam will be held? Also, is there usually a morning session and an afternoon session? How much notice (by mail) do you get before the actual exam of the exact time?

    Thanks
