    Las Vegas Metro PD

I'm currently living in California but thinking about moving out of state. I would like to find a good department and a two bedroom house that dosen't cost half a million dollars. (like the ones in California) Does anyone have any input on Vegas Metro PD. Good or bad all opinions are welcome.

I don't have first-hand knowledge of LVMPD, but from what I've heard, their hiring process is modeled after LAPD. Are you open to moving elsewhere?

I'm from Southern California but moved to South Florida recently. One of the main reasons for the relocation was the inaccessible real estate that you mentioned. Houses are MUCH more affordable here and the area is very similar to California, ie., good weather, diverse cultures...HOT bodies. ;)

Don't get me wrong, I love California and I LOVE Vegas. I'm a little bummed that Vegas is no longer in my backyard like it used to be.

LVMPD has a great reputation, as does North Las Vegas PD. They also have good benefits and pay very well. In fact, www.policepay.net has Henderson, NLVPD, and LVMPD in the top five for local departments in the country. LVMPD also has out of town testing.

Thanks for the info. I'am open to moving else where but I would like to try to stay close to the west coast. I've been to Florida the humidity killed me.

    LVMPD hiring process

    Hey-

I am graduating Michigan State Univesity with an honors degree in CJ, I put my application in and i was contacted yesterday by the LVMPD office and told that I could either test the week of Mar 20th or the week of May 17th...the recruiter said they are probably looking to have an academy in Oct...To make it out for the March 20th exam dates would be kinda rough for me right now with graduating...however the recruiter told me that it would be okay if i took the test on the May dates....that it would not affect my chances of getting into the October academy....can anyone confirm this? It is only a 6 month span between taking the test in May and the academy in October...is that cutting it close? Also is it done on a ranking system, even if you take it in May and you score higher than someone that tested in March, would you be ranked higher or are the rankings different? Also they said it takes about two testing session to find qualified 90 individuals. Do you get extra points or anything for having a BA degree? I am open to any suggestions or comments, anything will help....LVMPD is my number one choice, I want to be sure I get in....i have no traffic tickets, never did drugs or smoked, have already had 2 internships with PD's and have a 3.6 GPA with honors....
