    NYPD Agility obstacle course

Does anyone know how difficult is the NYPD obstacle course?
I'm not asking what it is, I know that you run out of a squad car , around a gym, thru cones, over fences, upstairs etc.

My question is do you have enough time to do it if you are just in normal shape or is the time of 2:38 just enough to finish the course if you really really run it hard.

I spoke to one cop, he said I could finish in around 2 minutes.

Can anyone who took it tell me and post their time.

they didn't tell our group the times we got... all we knew what whether we passed or failed... the only thing I do know is that I don't think anyone that went the same day as I did failed...

Go to walmart, buy 2 10 pound ankle weights, and find a fence. If you are gonna fail, it is probably going to be because of 1 of 2 things: You cant make it up the first fence, or you knock over the stick. Practice with the 2 10 pound ankle weights around your belt, and when you get the vest and weightbelt on it will feel alot lighter. Very few people failed at mine also. Almost everyone loses steam at the steps, but if you jog at a decent pace around the gym you can probably walk them no problem.

YOu can not bring a watch...and besides...there is no time to look at it. The vest will not limit you but will be awkward. Make sure when they put it on you...inhale and hold your breath. It will make it fit better. The weight belt should be on your hips. Thus you will not feel it. If you want to pass....this is the list of secrets:
    1) On your laps around the gym: JOG! Again...JOG! Do not run!
    2) Around teh barrels...use good footing.
    3) You can get over fence #1. The key is run up to it and "jump". Dont stop and walk up to it and try to climb up. You lose valuable time and if you have problems with fences...your momentum is gone!
    4) When you go under the stick...go flat to your belly! Push and pull on teh ground like a Navy Seal in teh Sand! Ducking under is how you touch teh bar and get disqualified. Go around more barrles, over another fence and outside.
    5) At the push and pull: When pushing....hands high on the side. When pulling.....grab low near the ground.
    6) The stairs are that. If you RAN, you will die here! If you did JOG on your lasp...you will be fine getting up them. Drag teh dummy and you are done.

    more questions

Thanks for the responses guys, I have one more question.

How many laps do you need to run around the gym, and how big is the gym.

Also why is running that bad. Will it take that much out of me, so I can't do the stairs very well?

Another ques. is the first fence five or six feet?

what exactly does good footing mean when you say use it around the barrels.
and by barrels do you mean the three cone set, or something else
    Thanks

you only have to do one lap around the gym... its pretty small... the 1.5 mile test there is 25 laps... im too lazy to think of the math on that one... but it was pretty easy to see that people who really killed themselves running the first lap were almost completely out of gas by the time they got to the second fence... people definitely caught on to that one too...b/c by the end ...the last few people were taking a nice slow jog around ... even at a leisurely pace... i would imagine that most people really felt it by the end... i know i did... and my legs are definitely strong..

I failed my obstacle course! I'm one of the girls that couldn't make it over the first fence. After approximately my 10th attempt I got over it and made it all the way up to the dummy. As I was about to pull the dummy off of the chair they told me "don't even touch him, times up!!" Unfortanetly I have to retake the entire exam, starting with the written exam in July and hope to score high to get called again and make it in the next 2005 class.

    My advise:

I know it almost looks impossible to complete the entire course in the time given, but it really isn't impossible unless you get stuck at one of the fences like I did. If you make it over the first one, then you'll have no problem getting over the second one, you now will have more than enough time to complete it.

If you lack upper body strength, work on some push ups and pull ups to make it easier to get over that 6 foot fence. Find a fence to practice with.

Eat healthy the day before and nothing heavy for dinner the night before. I witnessed someone vomit right after the obstacle course, I could only imagine what he had for dinner the night before.

Don't run the lap, jog it...you don't want to exhaust yourself because you will need to have saved some energy to pull yourself up those stairs.

Remember it looks impossible, even more impossible as your standing there next in line, listening for your them to call your name, waiting to enter the patrol car, IT REALLY ISN'T IMPOSSIBLE aside from the above mentioned reoccuring mishaps that could occur.

Well, the thunder and lightning here in Brooklyn tonight is going to cut my posting short since I'm sitting right next to the window. :(

Anyone have any quesions please feel free to ask.
