    Border Patrol Agent Process

I am just starting my employment process for the Border Patrol. I am taking my enterance exam on April 29. I am studying the booklet they gave me and am starting to grasp concepts and what will be on the test. My father was a BPA and is now an Immigration Officer. He is excited about my career choice. I want to do this for myself, but I don't want to let him down at the same time. Does anyone have any info on this process, difficulty of exam, how long the process is, etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanx

    Long Time Gi!!

BP takes their sweet time. You also most know now about DHS new (FCIP) Federal Career Intern Program. In short, it is a 2-year trial period in which you learn to be a BPA.

Look I'm their eligible for hiring list and I've been waiting for about 1 & half years now. It comes down to this; they need people in Arizona & New Mexico and want you to pick these States. Most people pick California (for sure) and Texas. Well they don't need agents for these States so if don't pick the (SH*T States) they'll keep you waiting because the list is long for California. I have already verified this with several BPA's who told me that I may see Haley's Comet before getting a call for FLEC.

If you really want to be BPA, you made have to go to Arizona dude. I'm already working for the GOV. I work for DSS (Diplomatic Security Service) with the US Department of State. It took me almost 2 years to get in, so be patience. Remember that there's a lot of dead beads out of work competing against you.

If you need more help PM me I'll help you as much as I can.

Well INS has always been slow. Also you have to realize that the number of applicants is huge, I mean BUKU. The FCIP is in effect now and since INS now falls under DHS things are all in the mix. They need people in Arizona allright but I would think twice before going. Of all the States in the US that have bad posts; this is among the worst. Most leave or put in for transfer to CAL or TX. I had 2 friends that were BPA's & the last one resigned out of ARZ caused it sucked.

Don't sweat it dude or should I say you won't because of the dry heat. Arizona is not all that bad if you are close to some type of city. I trained there and New Mexico when I was in the Army. It has a lot of empty in the middle of no-where type places. There are also vast areas in the south where there’s absolutely nothing at all but dessert and heat. The biggest problem out there is not the illegal Mexicans or the dessert nor the heat. The Mexican Army is not backing the drug trafficking indirectly of course. Several BPA’s have now come across the barrel of a machine guns; Mexican machine guns that is. It is only a matter of time before agents start scrapping it out with the Mexican Army which is better armed by the way. My friend told me that when he was in ARZ he came across some militants that looked like Mexican Army Soldiers in disguise. He was patrolling a stretch of nowhere and did nothing to stop the smugglers because there was nothing anyone could do. Most of his supervisors know too well how the sand blows down under and since during this time they were short; he continue to see crap like this happened frequently. Trust me it didn’t take long for him to resign from his post since the better part of his salary came from over time. Oh yeah I forgot about OT, or should I say AOU—
(Administratively Uncontrollable Overtime) which is 25% of your base pay. Dude I think you should talk to as many BPA’s as you can before taking the plunge. I’m trying to contact my old BPA’s buddies which gave me the ghost months ago. If I find them I’ll ask them to give you advise on the subject since I have second hand accounts of their experiences.

Arizona = Hot, Dry, Sand, and lots of critters that like to bite you.

It took the better part of 2 years to get an academy date for me with the BP and I finally got so fed up with them that I declined their offer. But, the BP will put you where the BP wants you. And prowl the honorfirst forums...a WEALTH of information for you.

Don't feel bad cause even if you passed the test you would still be in the same place you are right now. Read what RICZOTI wrote about (FCIP) This mean "Federal Career Intern Program"
