    NYPD Underage List

I took NYPD exam #3007 earlier this year, and received my notification two weeks ago to appear on April 3rd. I called the number given on the paper, because I would not be eligible for the July Academy class, due to the fact that I won't turn 21 until August. The woman informed me that I would be placed on an underage candidate list, and that I was to call in the beginning of August to continue the hiring process.

What exactly is the underage list? I know the general premise of it, and the woman said that I'd be eligible for the January 2005 Academy class, but is that dependent on the scores that come in from the June test?

Also, I have yet to sign up for the June test, but plan to take it. Can taking multiple tests hurt my status?

I've never heard of the underage list. If you were called for processing you are in good shape though. In fact, it will only help you in the hiring process. The older the list, the more likely you are to get hired. I just turned 21/graduated college recently and I am off list 1049. I did not go on any underage list, I just didn't go to the initial processing. If you don't go, you go on an "outstanding certification." All that means is that you can not move forward in the process until you complete the step you are on. I was getting ready to reactivate myself, and I randomly got a notice to report for my medical...so I go for that Friday.

As far as taking the June test, I'd say don't do it. As far as I know (I am just someone else going through the process) you can only be on one list at a time. So if you do worse on the second you may not have a good enough score anymore to get called up. Since you already did get called up, I'd say just sit tight.

That's just my advice. If you want the official deal talk to 212-RECRUIT. Also, let me know if I am right/wrong.

    Ogdogg, thanks for the advice!

I am list #2929, surprised I got a letter at all really. When I called the number on the letter, the woman asked me about my current GPA, college credits, some basic information, then told me that I was going to be placed on an underage applicant list, and that I should call back toward the end of July/early August to continue the application process for the January '05 class.

My main issue, aside from what being on the underage applicant list means, is what would happen, being as I'm somewhat low on the #3007 list, after the June test, in terms of test scores. Do the June scores have bearing on the previous lists? In other threads I've read that the newer tests can bump other people off of the applicant list because of higher scores. With that in mind, I'm sure I'll score higher on the June test if I were to take it. Would it be better to the June test? My step-father was a NYPD officer, as was his brother and my cousin, and they all urge me to take as many tests, and get on as many lists as possible. Does anybody know if this is the best thing to do?

I happened to go to one of the free tutoriasl classes that the NYPD was offering to prepare for exam #3007 and the recruitment officer said that you could take the exam as many times as you wanted and that they would keep all your scores off the exams. He made it seem like you could take four or five of the exams and be eligible off all the lists at once. That's what I was told when I asked a few months back, but you may want to call just to be safe man.

    Forms

The nypd no longer uses form APD-PS3 Police Officers Eligible's Receipt, that was was missing from packet also. For Detailed Earnings report, go to SSA office near you with a money order, your drivers license, and social security card, and it should take a minute for them to get it for you.

    tests

Score an 80 or higher on the written and you'll be fine. If you scored lower than an 80 overall, you should consider taking it again. Being on more than one list doesn't guarantee anything.
