does it sound like i passed the polygraph?

i just took a pre-employment polygraph with a local department that I really want to get into. After the test was over the examiner asked me briefly about two issues I might've shown a reaction to. After we covered that he simply said that he didn't see any major problematic reactions, all in all and that the test was now over. The impression I got from him was that the test went smoothly. Before I left I asked him a little bit about his experience in the department (aside from being a polygraph investigator he was also a long time veteran of the department, so I was curious). He answered in a very willing and friendly manner. He didn't seem pi$$ed off or suspicious towards me at all. So it seems to me that things went well, but then again I obviously have no clue as to how final decisions are calculated. All I can say is that I was honest to the best of my ability and recollection. I really tried to cover all issues we discussed as thoroughly as possible. Aside from being a trained polygraph examiner, this man also had years of experience in investigations and internal affairs. I definitely had no intention of messing around with him. Anyway, from how the test went I assume that I passed without any major problems, but I wanted to get any and all opinions from anyone with experience here. Thanks in advance. If I'm lucky, hopefully I'll have the honor of being among your ranks soon.

Dude, no offense...but people lie to me everyday thru "nice" behaviors.

You will know soon. I wish you the best of luck.

by the way, please do not see this as another "I hate polygraphs" thing, or turn it into one. I don't wish to even open that can of worms, nor do I feel I am in any position to question LE hiring standards. All I want to know is, whether or not it seems likely that I passed.

I am not making any assumptions. I am sorry I came across that way. I am not mad or anything. What I am trying to tell you is that things don't always appear as they seem. And I never get my hopes up or judge things like employment. Cuz when it comes down to it, I have had several interviews that I thought went really well...and I wasn't always the one that got picked. I am a huge pessimist, that is all. I don't get excited until the paper has been signed. But I do wish you much luck! Keep us posted. I am sure you did fine and there is nothing to worry about.

thanks for the reply! i appreciate your input, and i definitely agree with you. i'm not counting my chickens until they're hatched. i would think that the test went well, but i don't want to make any strong assumptions, which is why i'm asking about it here. we'll see i guess.

Like I said, I am sure you did well. My only question is...how many other applicants could have done well, as well? Ya know. What stage are you in? And/or how many more steps are there before you will know?

If they call you for the next step (Med, BI, whatever) then you passed it. If you get a DQ letter/phone call then you MAY not have.

due to the lack of a post test interogation, it would be a good indicator that you passed. however stranger things have happened. the charts will be reviewed by other or more senior polygraphers who make the final determination, but rarely is it ever different from what the test administrator deemed it to be. some get called in for a second test regardless, so that is also another prossibility

if u failed they will usually say your test indicated deception. i dont know of any depts that would leave u hanging like that. sounds like u passed. i guess people dont want to give u good news for whatever reason on this board.

you have to remember ALOT of polygraphers can and do bluff either way, to see reactions and to try to get confessions. i know people who were told they failed, interogated forever, then got the magic phone call cause he stood his ground during the interogation. this is almost common practice if your test results are inconclusive. however like i said, you werent interrogated. thats a VERY good sign

    update...

well, the department has already started the background investigation process by calling up my family and friends for reference and interviews. So I guess I passed. From what I know, departments will usually not move on to any further processing if there are issues you need to resolve on your poly. My background investigator is actually going to visit my parents in a few days. hehe kinda scary. anyway, i'm glad it looks like i got past one more step in the process. Thanks to all of you for your input. I'll keep yall updated!

    update...

The majority of my background is done. I took the written portion of my psych eval yesterday (jeeeez was that long) and I've signed my conditional offer of employment. This coming tuesday I have my psych interview and on thursday I have my medical. If that stuff goes well, then I'll be hired on with the department on May 3rd and sent to OC Sheriff's Academy May 10th. I'm almost there, and I can taste it. But my color vision isn't perfect so I guess there's a chance that I might get cut at the end which I am praying does not happen. Surprisingly, perfect color vision is not listed under minimum qualifications for this department so I think i should be okay, but you never know. This process has been one long stressful nail biting experience. But one way or another, its almost over.
