    NYPD Background (SSA)

I have a question for people currently in the hiring process for the NYPD. I'm trying to finish up my background packet, and need to get a printout from Social Security. I was wondering, are we supposed to list the jobs we're had for the past five years (on the Social Security sheet), or all the jobs we've had since we turned 18?

the ssa report needs only 98-02 ('03 isn't available yet, according to investigators).

other forms ask for all jobs, i gather than means all jobs.

Thanks, I'm going to list them all.

I've had 2 jobs, one during high school and one during college. I'm listing both, although I've been told my employer during highschool (8 years ago) no longer has records of me on file. I guess they're just checking earnings and taxes, hope this doesn't screw me up.

Yes. Furthermore, my local SSA office couldn't print out the detailed earnings statement. I had to order it.

bangs, thanks for the heads up. I just ordered my SS statement online. Is there any other forms I should try to attain now to speed up the process later?

Make sure you order the detailed earnings statement. I went back a few extra years and it was about ~$33 (it should be a little less, if you just go to 1998).

It supposedly has the names & dates of every employer you have ever had. Some have said that this substitutes for the W-2 and 1040 copies. Not verified yet...

I just realized I didn't order the right one...mine was free. I knew it was too good to be true! And of course this thing has to be done by mail, I'm sure it is gonna take forever.

    Hi,

Did you guys notice that in the background questionnaire for NYPD it asks you for all the information for all the cars you've ever owned? Does the state of N.Y. keep records of that information? I live in Illinois and they don't keep records of that here. I've owned at least 12 cars and there's no way I can get that info.

I wonder if I should bother applying if I'm unable to obtain that info. What do you guys think?

    Thanks!

I paid $27.00 for my detailed earnings report today. It lists all jobs you had. I listed 3 on my app. at the academy, but geez.... according to this statement I had 6 -7. They printed my report out right on the spot.

I know this thread is primarily for the SSA form but...

I just got back from my medical/initial character screening, and I'm looking over all the forms to fill out. I don't see on any of them a place for personal or professional references. Do they even ask for that information? I figured that was a given they would want to know who you hang out with.

Edit: I just looked at the form that names all the forms on the packet. I am missing 5 APD 19's, and 1 APD/PS3. I'm going to call tommorow and see if they will mail them to me, anyone think they will give me any problems?

I am in a similar position, and my investigator told me to provide as much info as I could obtain, but did not stress that I absolutely had to provide everything or that missing something in the process would be grounds for removal from consideration. If you have copies of parking or moving violations etc, this will help to get the info together, as will accident reports (and if you have had any in the past 4-5 years, get those reports, you will need them.) I would certainly not let this keep me from applying if I were you. NYS seems to only keep 4-5 years, although this may not apply to the records that your investigator has access to.

I just met with my investigator, and the portion of my booklet relating to autos I've owned had a number of "?" in it. I'm 32 and had a series of crappy cars when I was younger that I barely remember. One of my entries listed the make, but under model I had two different names with a ? because I could not remember what it was. As far as dates, I remembered my first because it was the same as when I got my license, and it died the month before I graduated high school. After that, there is a series of "???? " until my last two cars.
I'm in my 30's, and it's apparent that much of this stuff is geared toward the average 22 year old who probably remembers what time their home room bell rang at high school (I barely remember where I went to high school at my advanced age...ha ha).
I think as long as you make a good effort toward providing everything, and do so in a neat, organized manner while being respectful you should be okay.
