How are you obtaining your NYS Driving Record?

as any NYPD candidate knows, the paperwork calls for any and all traffic violations, parking tickets, and accidents.

so far, i have contacted the NYS DMV Upstate Office (518-473-8237). they sent me a printout that only shows the last three or fours years (mine is clean) and claim they purge all records older than that. not much help there.

i contacted my current DMV (California) and my records are 'clean' with them also.

i also contacted my insurance carrier, and am waiting to see what records they have.

is there another way of retreiving the information that i haven't yet thought of? i don't have most of my old records due to theft from a move, so this is somewhat more difficult for me.

i'm hoping i don't have to bother my investigator with this petty question...

From the way your post sounds, you have tickets, accidents, or whatever older than 3-4 years. If you don't know the exact dates, I'd say call either your investigator or the APD if you don't want to bother him, and just ask and see if you can estimate the dates. If the dmv claims they don't have a record, how are you supposed to find out if your stuff was stolen? I'm pretty sure if you explained the situation to your investigator he would understand if the dates weren't correct. I am getting my DMV abstract soon, luckily (actually unluckily) all my problems are within 3-4 years...

As for parking tickets issued by a college or university, I'm not sure on this. I called my college and they told me they don't keep records of parking tickets issued, only records of who recieves one and doesnt pay it.I don't think those matter anyway unless its like parking in a handicap zone or something like that.

i struck out with DMV reports from both NY & CA, but was able to obtain a very thorough report from my insurance company. it listed the details of pretty much every accident and ticket.

if anyone else is having trouble with that, i suggest giving your insurance company a call.

my paperwork only mentions outstanding parking tickets. I have none I have not paid. I haven't checked with my investigator yet, but if your having a problem tracking them down I'd say ask you may not even need to look.
