    Reume building

Like many other college students I am trying to find interesting positions to be able to put on a resume. I jumped at this awesome opportunity last semester to sit on the State Advisory Group of juvenile justice. This board makes decisions on what programs to implement for the juvenile programs and how to allocate money. I had mentioned this earlier and no one really replied. But anyways the members on the board must have liked what I said because I was chosen with 3 other "youth members" ... I'm 21. I will receive an appointment from the governor and have a say in how decisions are made for the entire state. Sitting along police officers, correctional officers, judges, prominent community groups and members. I'm thinking this is an awesome opportunity and quite unique. What do you people in the Law enforcement community think? Would this build up the resume as some limited real world experience? Feedback is welcome

    Thanks
    DLT

DLT, this advisory group on juvenile justice I believe would be a great asset to your resume. The reason you probably got no response initially is that with LEOs, especially here in the state of Georgia, when mention Juvenile, we go the opposite way, stop listening, etc, etc. Trust me, when you become a LEO, you will understand.

I think this would be a good resume builder. The only thing I would caution you on is that you need some variety in your outside interests. I'm sure some may disagree, but I think that presenting yourself as a well-rounded individual will be an asset to a board of interviewers.
My suggestion is to volunteer and some different places; ones that hold a personal interest for you. For example, my heart lies with childrens' needs, so I volunteer with the center for missing/exploited children. This helps me work through some of the frustrations I get from work (not being able to help the kids the way I want to), and is a community service, but not necessarily law enforcement.
    Good luck.
