New Jersey State Police are hiring?

I heard that the new jersey state police are hiring applicants and the starting salary is around 50 k. Does anyone know how many people they need and how difficult it is to make it?

I hope you all have at least some military experience or have a Bachlors degree if you plan on applying.

It's one of the toughest depts to make anywhere. Their hiring standards are very high and their academy is nothing short of brutal. Think USMC boot camp. There are a bunch of places easier to make than NJSP which start you at 50K or higher.

The NJSP are a very squared away organization. Granted, the media jumps all over any mistakes they make.

To apply you need to have a BA/BS degree or 60 credits and 2 yrs of active military.

First, they have a written exam which isn't very difficult, but half the exam is video scenarios, which is to determine what you would do in certain situations. You must show up in business atire and they start their yelling at a mild pace from there.

Next step is the Physical which isn't too difficult, especially if you were in the military. They yell big time at you there. It spokes all the kids who were never in the military.

You then get fingerprinted at one of their stations, and not the thumb print they do at the exam. Oh yeah, you gotta wear a suit!

Next step is the oral interview which is no longer a panel. Now it is one trooper with a microphone and a recorder; I guess they don't want to seem impartial towards certain races or ethnic backgrounds! The answers are reviewed by a panel at a later date. Wear a suit!

Next step is background investigation: NJ doesn't have a polograph (pls lets not discuss this), so the background is pretty intense.

    Then medical and Pysch exams!

I was really impressed with how professional they are! I didn't make it through, but it wasn't from a lack of trying ;-)

And seagirt is supposed to be a tough academy!

check out njlawman.com and go to their msg board to get any info on the NJSP.

    Good Luck!

last hiring cycle they had 6,000 applications. 4,000 met the minimum qualifications and were invited to the test. about 3000 made it to the physical and PT test. then about 2200 made it to the oral boreds. then about 1200 made it to background.pysch. they hired 300 troopers.

Not the damn video b/s test. They didn't write it and neither did MSP.

I took that frontline video test for a local pd. I didn't know if I passed or failed for almost three months becuase the test vendor said all 70 or so people failed. The pd then had to look at the scores and determine who they thought actually passed. I kind of got the feeling that it wasn't a very effective test for police pre-employment selection.
