    New York State Police

Anyone else take the exam earlier this month? I haven't received my score or gotten a call back yet, just checking around.

Hey, I am taking it the 27th. Judging from my experience with other agencies, it is going to be a while. NYPD took about 5 months, and I took the Orange/Broome County tests in november and I still havent heard back from them. Besides that, no list will be established until all the tests are finished which is still 2-3 weeks away.

At the test they told us we would get our results in 4 to 8 weeks.

Be prepared to wait. I was just talking to a friend about this 2 days ago and he said it took 2 years from the time he applied until the time he got called.... and he was 1,120 on the list!

i'll be sitting for it on the 27th as well. i'm hoping to make the july nypd academy, taking the state test is sort of a back-up plan. the state pays better, but i would choose nyc if given the option. things are moving pretty quickly with the nypd, i doubt the state will move as fast.

I took the test at the State Fairgrounds which was on the 6th of March. Easy test though, the easiest that I've taken in this state. They mentioned that they would not distribute the scores until all the test sites are done with theirs. Testing should be done by the end of this month. Which means we probably see our test scores until the middle or end of May.

The 2nd half of the test was a strange test, does anyone know how they factor in the psychological portion of the test into the test score?

    Anyways, good luck everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!

I've heard they use a point system to weigh the psych portion of the test based on the most desirable officer traits. Each response (strongly agree, disagree) was assigned a numeric point value. Your responses are weighed against an "ideal" candidate score, with deductions for scores above and below that.

I took the NYPD test a few years ago, and the called me 2 WEEKS after I took the test. I wasn't ready so I took myself off the list after passing that initial processing day. That happened to be around the time Giuliani was hiring a ton of cops. Point is that it could take years, it could take weeks, it depends on the department and the demand. I know Pataki pushed 170 troopers through the academy in 2003 (i think) but I am not sure if that surge is over and they are back to a more normal class size . . . good luck. The next NYSP class will be in fall. I bet they will only call recent test takers who did well, and maybe call people from past tests too?

This just published on the NYSP website:

Recruitment: Troopers - Frequently Asked Questions

When will I get my score?

Exams are not scored until the end of the March 2004 testing cycle. It is anticipated that grade notifications will be mailed during the month of May 2004.

How soon will I be called for further processing?

Candidates are processed in rank order based upon exam score and any applicable Veteran's Preference credits. Depending on the number of vacancies authorized to be filled, the first Academy class from the new list is projected to be appointed in the early Winter 2004 (approx. December). The first phase of the selection process for that class will be conducted during the summer of 2004. Candidates reached for the first phase will receive an invitation in the mail. The first phase of the selection process includes college credit review, physical ability test, height/weight check, vision test, and document review.

How can I get an idea of when I will be called for further processing?

Candidates are called for further processing in rank order. We typically conduct processing for two academy classes per year. Based upon the size of the class, we process a ratio of 10 candidates to 1 acceptance. This means, for example, that for a class size of 100, we will canvas 1,000 candidates to attend a processing. Classes can range in size from 100 to 250, depending on the number of openings.

Does successful completion of the physical ability test guarantee me a position in the Academy class for which you are processing?

No. First, you must meet the requirements defined for successfully passing the background investigation.

Then, due to attrition, we process more candidates than are required for an Academy class. If there are more successful candidates than openings in the next class, you may be selected for appointment to a subsequent class. Therefore, success in the selection process does not guarantee a position in the class for which we are currently processing.

Got my score/list number from an insider last night. I am just about number 12,000 and I got a 76.8...horrible!!! The highest score (with veterans credit) was a 92. 25,000 took the test.

Expect scores by mail in a few weeks.

I dont think they will be giving it for a while (according to their site), but the deadline was extended for active military personnel. If you are active military than go to the nys trooper website (do a google search). If not, it's going to be a while before it is offered again.

Sorry to hear that. Do you know how many people they will take in the next class? That will dictate if your rank allows you to attend.

Also, do remember where you think you might have gone wrong on the test? Do you remember feeling that you might have gotten certain types of questions wrong?
