In need of some more advice, relating to past employment.

Hello all, while reviewing some different apps I have come across a couple that only ask for my last 10 yrs of employment info. This is where I am running into some trouble. In my late 20's I got married, my husband did not believe that women should work out of the home. He wanted me to stay at home, take care of his daughter, the house, his paper work......... So long story short, there were some yrs that I was not "Employed" I worked very hard, was just not paid I did do a lot of volenteering with my church as well as many mission trips to other countries. I am concerned about how this will look on my application. I am curious if anyone has been in this situation and how it will be viewed. I woould really appreciate any input. Thank you all. Just explain it as you did on here. If you have documentation regarding the volunteering/mission work, include that as well. What did your job history look like while you were employed?

My employment prior to my marriage was good, Except I was fired once when I was 21. In all honesty I was a very bad bartender and deserved to be fired. Other than that I have never had any problems. I worked in the funeral business until I got married. I know the termination will not look good, but hopefully it will not dq me. I know it is very competitive today so I am taking a very long look at all my weak areas before I start applying. Thank you so much for you quick response. Be careful with looking too closely at what you consider "weak" areas. You might end up thinking you have too many and either wait too long or just plain not apply. Start getting the apps in and allow the agencies you're applying to to make the decision if those are weak points or not. Not having a job outside the house would not be considered weak to me, as I know my wife works her tail off raising our kids.

Very true, marinepilot. I worked my tail off. 6 am till 10 pm. When other women would ask what I did for a living and I would tell them I stayed home they would say, Oh it must be nice not having to work!! Rotfl, that was definetly one of the hardest jobs I have ever had Being in LE has been a dream of mine for a very long time. 15 yrs ago I came into contact with an officer, I was the victim. That man made such a huge impact on my life, in truth he probably is the reason I am alive today. He probably would not remember me but I will never forget him and the impact he had on me. That is why I dream of becoming an officer, it amazes me that just by going to work each day the men and women in LE are able to make such a difference in others lives.
