    Drug use

    What do you think,
    I experimented 9 times with marijuana in H.S/ freshman first semester of college last use was about 2 years ago and I did a whip it 1 time in November of 2008. Will I still be able to be employed after 3 year mark with the marijuana.

    Welcome to RP,

    Its going to depend on what state you are in and the agency. In Texas you can attend an academy with what you mentioned but getting hired is another story. Some agencies in Texas require no marijuana use with in the past 5years and there are others that are 10. There are some that have a 2 year set up. I have heard of agencies that don't put a number on it and go on a case by case basis. Look up the agency's you are thinking about applying with and check the requirements and dis qualifiers.

    The above advice would also be the case for agencies across the U.S. outside of Texas as well.

    I'm not a LEO but in AZ, here is the minimum requirements for certification from Az POST. Whether an agency will hire you is another matter. I don't know how "whip its" are classified with regards to drug use. I'd bet that most successful applicants exceed the "minimum" requirements.

    R13-4-105. Minimum Qualifications for Appointment
    A.
    9. Not have illegally sold, produced, cultivated, or transported for sale marijuana;
    10. Not have illegally used marijuana for any purpose within the past three years;
    11. Not have ever illegally used marijuana other than for experimentation;
    12. Not have ever illegally used marijuana while employed or appointed as a peace officer;
    13. Not have illegally sold, produced, cultivated, or transported for sale a dangerous drug or narcotic;
    14. Not have illegally used a dangerous drug or narcotic, other than marijuana, for any purpose within the past seven years;
    15. Not have ever illegally used a dangerous drug or narcotic other than for experimentation;
    16. Not have ever illegally used a dangerous drug or narcotic while employed or appointed as a peace officer;

    B. The illegal use of marijuana, or a dangerous drug or narcotic is presumed to be not for experimentation if:
    1. The use of marijuana exceeds a total of 20 times or exceeds five times since the age of 21 years; or
    2. The use of any dangerous drug or narcotic, other than marijuana, in any combination exceeds a total of five times, or exceeds one time since the age of 21 years.

    Whip it is nitrous oxide right? If so, that could be a problem, because I feel like that would be considered a hallucinogenic drug.

    This is a good example why posting questions like this is often best in Ask A Cop, where only verified cops can answer (while definitely a poor decision to use, "whip-it's" are not hallucinogens).

    The quote in my last post should be clear about whose response I was referring to.

    Perhaps I'm not too keen on the exact definition of hallucinogen, but I would assume it's anything that causes the person to experience shifting perceptions both auditory and visual. Nitrous oxide can cause these effects. I was merely giving my opinion based on personal knowledge. If for some reason nitrous oxide is not generally considered a hallucinogen, then I was wrong and I apologize to Dcon123 for the false bad news.
