Majors

I heard that criminal justice is a bad major to have when applying to a police department does anyone know about what major I should study?

Not that it's a "bad" major to have its just that if you can't become a LEO it's not a good degree to fall back on.
Depts don't generally care what your degree is in. They want to see that you have one and that you did well in whatever major you have.

Yes, I'd suggest Psychology for you.

In all seriousness, I think Psychology is a good major since it gives you an education on how the mind affects behavior. However, it is not a major that is really useful unless you plan on getting a Ph.D in it. You can not get licensed with just a BA in Psychology (I could be wrong but that was my experience.). Even a MA in Psychology isn't going to get you too far. Depending of course on what you want to do. If you enjoy working with people, then it is a good degree for health or social services jobs.

I have a BA in Psychology, MA in Psychology, and MSW (Master of Social Work). My education and work experiences have certainly given me the skills to work with a myriad of populations, especially difficult ones (e.g. drug addicts, individuals with severe mental illness). It has been my ability to communicate and establish good rapport with people that I have been promoting when I interviewed with FLEO positions.

Frankly, I feel that is the key: take something you have done and make it relevant to the field who want to work in (of course it may not always work).

Good luck in school, Hellonneighbor!

I should have read your previous thread before I posted my response. Will this keep me from becoming a cop?

Seems like picking out a major is the least of your troubles....

Yes, that says "Love" all over it.

So I'm guessing she's around 40 then... your Mom's age.

There's a name for that Psychological condition... I just can't recall it right now... but someone else does, I'm sure.
According to Freudians the term is "oedipus complex"

Yes, you just keep believing that.

Better yet, why don't you tell someone in a position of Authority if that is so true?

Helloneighbor:

Why are we angry at you? I am not in LE so I can not post in this thread http://www.realpolice.net/forums/ask...oming-cop.html but I will give you a reason for this here.

While I truly believe that your story of your "relationship" with your teacher is a bunch of phooey, if it is true then let's enlighten you to why a career in LE may not be the place for you. You say you have done nothing wrong, and while you may be able to use this "I am the victim" excuse, what this shows potential LE departments is your lack of scruples. Obviously, you can't keep it in your pants which would make you a liability to your department. It also would concern me that you would be susceptible to bribery which you seem to be benefiting from currently in regards to you your grades
Quote:
I mean all she's been doing to me is been a freak in the sheets and given me some really good grades as result so what can I say.
.

Now, if you are making this up for whatever ridiculous thrill who are getting, but you still want to be in LE. That thread of yours shows that you are not only immature but that you are tactless. Of which I am sure would come out in your interview.

I hope this was clear enough for you to understand and good luck in your process.

Try majoring in using the search function. You would be amazed how many times this question has been asked. If you can bring up something a little more unique, post the question. However, in it's current form, your question has been asked and answered ad noseum.
