Anyways, if it doesn't matter, then should I continue to pursue a CJ degree? I'm not much interested in taking anything else besides that?

Are you kidding> Colleges give away Bachelor's degrees like jujube's. They're the new HS diploma. Of course get one. I'm just saying dont get a CJ degree just because you think you need CJ to be a cop. Get a degree. If you really like CJ, then do it.

So I should definitely get a 4 year degree instead of a 2 year? Gotcha. I'll either need to find out if other colleges accept credit transfers to them, or just start out at another one to begin with.

And yes, I understand I don't need CJ Degree to become a Police Officer, as a matter of fact, not even a degree in some cases. I just want to be ahead of other applicants in that respect. Thanks again for your answer.

All I can reference as knowledge is my own dept, and I can tell you here that, to get hired, my MS was equal to the 60 semester hours of sacttered classes some others had. They didnt care about a degree or how many. It was just a box they checked: At least 60 hours of school? check. And that was it.

Two years is a drop in the life bucket. Spend the 2 years turning the associate's into a bachelor's. You'll be so much happier later on that you did.

A degree in almost ANYTHING else would serve you better in the "afterlife".

See if you can stomach Business?

A CJ degree will get you next to nowhere after you either retire, get "injured out" or decide that LE isn't your bag... and doesn't matter in LE, either.

Just my .02.

From what I understand, you can become a Paralegal/Court Clerk/Etc with them as well.

I've wanted to be in LE all of my life, it's something I'm pretty sure of. I certainly wouldn't want to take a Business class. Thanks for the Two Cents, I'll take as many cents as I can get.

Well if you don't want to take business classes, why don't you take classes in computers or networking? Thats where the money is going to be in the near future...

I was thinking of that too. It's where the money is right now too. I'm considering all of my possible options.

Computers are a huge +1. I think the most important thing about a degree is having it to get your foot in the door and to have something to fall back on in case you get outta LE for some reason.

Personally if it doesn't work out Im going to get that Masters and pay for it by being a mechanic

If I really couldn't do it or make it, I'd go back and get a degree in Nursing. I'd become a Paramedic instead of a Nurse, but a 39K top salary is completely unlivable in New York.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the commercials say you can become a CSI, Private Detective, Cruise Ship Security Guard, etc. with one, too. But before I believed any commercials, I'd actually talk to someone who IS one, and go to court, watch the BS for awhile and see if you could actually stand to do that job for the rest of your life with that degree.

I'm not knocking CJ degrees for the fun of it, son. I've got one, thought it would give me an edge, discovered the "edge" was waaaay overblown and the best courses in college that prepared me for the job were the English Comp, Business Math and possibly Speech.

All the CJ courses did was teach me a little History and how Courts work... the funny part is that the Instructor was a Retired NYC Lt. teaching kids in SC how the Courts in NYC worked. There was some generic court information, but most of it didn't pertain to this area.
