    Question about traffic ticket.

I was involved in an accident where I rearended someone and my car flipped over. Needless to say I went to the hospital by ambulance. So when I got out I went to the police department because they had my license. The dispatcher there handed me the incident report, my license, and a ticket to sign. I sign it and he gives me back both white copies one for me to mail in guilty or not guilty and the white copy that says court original on it. My question is if I don't pay the ticket will the court know I didn't because they didn't get their copy of it. What should I do? Thanks

I kinda doubt the guy you met at the station was a dispatcher. We have a bunch of copies with our tickets so there would be little problem, we could just write a new one if we wanted.

The real question as to your situation is... was the guy wearing his hat?

Which also brings up the chain of evidence question! If the officer at the scene was wearing his hat then the officer who returned your license and gave you your copies of the ticket should of been wearing a hat also! If not, I believe you may have a good case of someone breaking the chain of evidence!

He probably wont remember if the accident investigator was wearing his "Investigators Hat", I beleive the way our state sees "color of authority and headgear" I dont think it will matter if the LE that gave him his tickets etc. was wearing his hat..As dor chain of custody, he might have a good case for dismissal, but he would have to prove that someone who handled the "evidence" was in violation of the HAT/HEADGEAR requirement...

Yeah....just don't pay it. Nobody is going to remeber to follwo-up on a accident where a car rear-ended another and a one flipped over. I am sure the accident investigator assigned doesn't care and won't follow-up. I am sure the person who who was hit won't follow-up and I am sure thw insurance company investigator of the person you hit won't follow up.

I am not sure what state you are from or how old you are, but your question shows you lack the maturity or responsibility to drive. You do something reckless, hit somebody from behind, flip your car and are obviously 100% at fault. Rather than act like an adult, admit what you did and pay the piper, you come to a police website and ask what will happen if you don't pay the ticket...which means we can conclude you have considered how to get out of it by either ignoring it or demonstrating a complete lack of integrity by not taking care of your business.

I hope the state you are in takes your license away after this.

If the ticket is similiar to the ones in Connecticut, you can either check off box #1 (pleading guilty) and mail in the fine, or you can check off box #2 (pleading not guilty) and mail in the ticket and they will send you a court date where you can argue your case to a judge.

Those are your options. But I suspect you already knew that.

Let me answer your question with a question: would you rather be a responsible adult and pay the ticket or run the risk of having an arrest warrant issued for you for failure to appear? If you try to cheat the system, I hope you get caught, as you'll be deserving of the latter.
