The municipality I work in has adopted local ordinances against many weapons- including martial arts weapons, batons, 'fighting knives' etc- to avoid any confusion on the issue of the MD statute. Better make sure you know the local statutes in addition to the state ones, because we've had many people have to surrender their weapons and sometimes spend the night in the pokey for having a weapon they thought was legal.

I know of no clearinghouse of information for local ordinances, although there may be one I'm not aware of yet. Your best bet is to start by googling (town) local ordinances, but the results are not fool-proof. I know that the area I work in does not seem to have its local ordinances fully published online, and there are usually changes throughout the year. The local weapons ordinances, for example, aren't immediately available online. If you call the municipal police department they would probably have the best idea what is unlawful. The other two options seem to be to leave the weapons at home or risk arrest.

I'll head down to my precinct and ask if there are any local ordinances i should be aware of regarding knives, short drive is much more preferable than arrest or going to work without part of my equipment, thanks for the tip
