Is it possible for a Brazilian being hired as a American cop?

    Hi! How're you guys doing?

As I've already written on my Intro Thread, I'm 33 and I'm from Brazil. I've been keeping on pursuing the dream to become a cop for almost five years.

Despite the fact that I'd be very greatful to become a Brazilian police officer, by serving my nation, I'm also very interested to know how the America's police enforcement works.

First of all, I'd like to know if there's any agency in US that I could contribute with my work force. I'm already aware of the need of being an American citizen to join the US police corps. Nevertheless, Is there any law enforcement agency which recruits even foreigners for a position?

In fact, I can't deny that I appreciate a lot how much public security is valued in America, so it'd be a honor for me to have a chance of join an American police agency by supporting the justice to be made, even if it'll have to be done far away, at another country, serving another nation needs.

What I'm trying to mean is that my main goal is to help all people without distinction of birth, race, creed or any other thing. My desire is to assist any living being from around the globe.

I hope you guys don't imagine that my text above is only wishful thinking.

    Best regards!

Yes. Getting citizenship will be a huge plus. I don't know about other states, but up here in Massachusetts I'm pretty sure being a US Citizen is a requirement.

Sometimes we even hire people based specifically on their language skills. That may be your "in".

I'm impressed at your English skills. Granted there were some things that just "sound funny", but you write better than most people that post here. Good job.

Citizenship is a requirement in Oregon also to be a sworn officer.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

Might want to check with Colorado. I think I remember someone saying you only had to have a legal work permit, not be a US citizen to apply.
This career is not a sprint, it is a marathon.

Come to California - the way things are going, it won't be long before we'll be mandated that a certain percentage of all new hires will be illegal immigrants... By then, if you can fog a mirror, you'll probably get hired...

Hey G35! Tks for the compliment!

In fact, I've been searching for some police dpts websites and they really request the American citzenship as a qualification to apply for a position inside the corporation.

I'll keep on looking for another agencies, but I think this is almost a national rule, as here in Brazil.

Nevertheless, maybe one day I can become an Interpol agent, so perhaps this will be my chance to work beside of some of the best officers around the world. I only have to keep studying towards the Brazilian Federal Police (like FBI in America) and then, once working there I can be recruited for joining Interpol.

I'm very glad to know a little bit more about public security abroad from you guys.

    Take care,
    danresendes
