Can A Cop Help Us With This

My husband & I have great credit. Absolutely nothing on our credit report. My husband's brother moved into our town & lived with us until the place he was going to rent was up & ready to be lived in. My husband's brother lived with us for awhile & then moved into his house. He had no furniture, so we went to put furniture on our furniture card from the store we purchased our furniture from, because he said he needed some & he'd pay us for it! We currently have two sets of furniture on our card. My husband's brother hasn't paid the $22 that was due in October & is showing no signs of paying it this month either, which I need by the 14th, so I can mail our payments out for the furniture company(their bank) to receive by the 17th! He purchased a couch & love seat for in the $800's. My issue is my husband's name is on the credit(card) through the company & it showed the furniture needed to be delivered to my husbands brother. Would we be able to go to his house(with a cop) present to grab our furniture that we're technically paying for, or are we screwed? I know if we took this to court, it probably wouldn't do no good. I'm just frustrated, because he hasn't payed us for living with us the short while & now he keeps making excuses for not paying us is payments for the furniture! Is there anything we can do for us to get our couches from him that's on our name? Would court even do any good? Thanks!

Sounds like a civil matter to me. But try your local PD anyways.

Probably not. I would cancel that credit card ASAP though and make sure no more charges can go on it. Sometimes trusting relatives is an expensive lesson.

But as said before, you can ask. Don't count on it if the brother puts up a fuss.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

Civil all the way here, we would refer you to the local magistrate. We don't get involved in property issues such as this...

I wouldn't be able to help you repossess anything. This is ALL civil.

And YOUR credit rating is going to take a HIT if you guys don't pay up.

You shouldn't loan any money to family that you intend on seeing back.

Of course, the furniture was financed (an awful financial decision, I might add), but the example stands.

It is civil in nature. You need to speak with an attorney. The court can file an order for you to get your furniture back or an injunction for the brother to start paying if you think you can't get it peacefully. Once there is a court order in place, you could then ask for the police department to be there to keep the peace while you retrieve your property.
