Seriously, call CSD and get some free parenting classes. They offer them. If you can't control them now, wait until they're 16.... They teach some good methods to use (and things NOT to do) other than hitting them.

In the short period of time I worked swing shift in uniform, I got a couple of different calls on stuff exactly like this.

I had a call of a kid who wouldn't get out of bed to go to school. I told the mom to get a pitcher of cold water and hold it over him and count down from 10. I watched and at # 3 he realized she was going to give him a bath in bed.

I never had to go back.

Ohman, don't even get me started on this topic. That kind of BS call (and I NEVER responded to a legitimate one) is a semi-common occurrence here in LA - pathetic! Some of them are even dispatched as Priority (we have Routine, Priority, and Emergent) - doubly Pathetic!

I never gave the complainant the time of day on those calls. We are sometimes social workers, but only to a point. I never liked being used as a threat to some kid and that's exactly what that is.

Here's who you call. You call up the testicular fortitude to be a parent and discipline them.

I hate those calls. Luckily on midnights I don't get them often. The worst are the ones who want them taken away and when told that juvenile detention only has room for violent offenders, they get all indignant and ask "So they have to put me in a hospital before they'll go to jail?" Almost without variation my answer is yup, so either start actually being a parent and nip it in the bud, or sit back and let it happen.
