Interested in becoming a member of the force...?

    Hello,

I am interested in becoming a police officer. I plan on attending college before I enter the academy, but I want some advice. I cannot decide on what degree path to choose.

I am debating on these majors:

    Communications
    Liberal Arts
    Sociology
    Psychology
    Philosophy

Which one do you think would be the best option for becoming a cop?

    Thanks.

I would suggest you get your degree in whatever you are most interested in, other than Criminal Justice. Most agencies will only care that you have a degree, not what it's in. I have a 4 year degree in Aviation Management, which has absolutely nothing to do with LE, it the fact I had it helped me get hired.

If you have ANY interest in computers , PD's can USE people who are TRAINED and are GOOD with computer forensics. FEW officers are GOOD at this beyond the typical self proclaimed experts.

That or a degree that can be used AFTER LAw Enforcement. Thats right. Some day you will want to retire and get away from LE. And having a marketable degree / skill or knowledge base ( not CJ ) will be a big help.

um... I guess psychology would be the closest, but if you really want to have a leg up go for what the others have said... business, computers, and I'll add languages. If you have a forensic accounting degree and speak a critical language, I'm pretty sure you go to the front of the line.
