Modified Exhaust

Hello, I have a question about modified exhaust in Texas.

I have a Jeep and was looking to replace my exhaust system from the Cat back. I have seen some jeeps with a turn down tip right behind the muffler but BEFORE the rear axle. The exhaust would be aimed down and out but the tip of the exhaust pipe would not extend past the body or out the back at all.

Is this an illegal set up? Are there any laws stating that the exhaust MUST extend past the side of the body or out the back?

On a Jeep you have to run the pipe all the way out the back, or out to one of the sides. It will not pass inspection either. The exhaust can not exit under the passenger compartment. If you were idling in one place for a long time, you could get sick from carbon dioxide poisoning. But on a truck you can dump the pipes under the bed as long as its not under the passenger compartment.

Thank you. I did think about the sitting idle part. but i didnt think it would be long enough to get you sick. Thanks for the reply. I think ill just take it all the way out the back.
