Every department has different rules and requirements for education.

Dallas requires a minimum of 45 college credit hours, but will waive this for three years of military service with an honorable discharge, for example.

Education is becoming more common, and often, meeting the minimum standards are not enough to get hired. Going to school and getting a degree will help you out in hiring, promotion, and transfer to specialized units within law enforcement, and will help you a lot in many other areas in case you decide that law enforcement is not the career for you after all.

I'm not trying to bust your balls, but you're not going to pass any entrance exam with writing skills like that.

You may meet the minimum standards to apply with your military experience, but if your writing skills aren't any better than that post you're never going to see the inside of a cruiser.

College is very important for a lot of reasons. You may not learn a single thing about being a cop (because I didn't), but writing skills, public speaking, interpersonal skills, exposure to diverse groups of individuals, and responsibility are all things that are far more valuable to me than any ability to gun on the run.
