I am getting out of the military soon and through the military I have a "no running profile". Do Police Academies accept non-runners or walkers?

No.
At least in the state of AL this is the case, as you have to be able to pass the state-mandated PT test (mandated by the state's Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission). The PT test (which you have to pass in a specific time) includes a 1.5 mile run. While you don't have to do a full sprint to pass it, you do have to run it to pass it within the time allotted. No running means not passing that test, which means being removed from the academy (and many of the better departments in this state will even include the very same PT test in their application process, well before you ever make it to an academy).
Sorry, just the nature of the business.

Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the presence of justice.
My new hero!
By the end of the 5 month academy , a 20-29 yr old male has to do the 1.5 mile run in at least 12:18. I did it in 12:14 earlier today![]()
The four basic standards at the 1.5 mile run , the 300 meter run , situps and bench press. If you fail any one , you are done. Doesn't matter if you can bench press 500 lbs , if you can't run , you are done.
Creeper Cop
In Connecticut it's the same thing. If you can't run, you can't be a cop.
If this is a temporary thing, it's no problem. If you broke your ankle last month or something like that, just wait until you can run again. If your profile specifies that you can never run, are you getting a medical discharge?
I went through 3 years of active duty and 5 years of reserves without going on sick call, ever. However, I knew plenty of people who would get a profile for everything, from shaving to sweeping to marching to staying up all night.
What's the issue? Do you have an injury that will heal? Or are physically unable to run ever again?
Cogito ergo summopere periculosus.
Fiat justitia, ruat coelum.
Most agencies/states subscribe to the Coooper Standard for physical standards which include a timed run. I hope you just have a temporary condition. Not being able to run as a cop is like being a firefighter and allergic to water. It just won't happen.
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.
Not to mention that you wouldn'tbe much of a back-up officer I'f Im in a fight and have to wait for you to walk the 6 blocks to get to me.

An amateur will train until they get it right. A professional will train until they can't get it wrong.
