    HI ,anyone know of some literature to help get through the police test in california?

    ive always been interested in being an leo and now want to now change careers.The date is weeks away ......................any help would be appreciated THKS

    There are books out there to help prepare for the written tests given by police departments. I have one, but it's in a trunk buried in my garage.

    You should be able to do a google search and find some.

    I think the written test that I took was basically reading comprehension and a short essay. What amazed me was that the test apparently eliminates about 70% of the applicants off the bat. Basically they were just making sure we could read and write. Not much to study for, by the time you apply you can either read and write or you cant. I guess you could read up on how to format a short essay....but other than that I dunno.

    Unlike other states, CA doesn't require a standardized civil service test.

    Our test is one of a general aptitude type with a small area on some LE based things. On average , 50% of those who take the test fail it. We aren't looking for the highly trained person , but the normal person that we can sucessfully highly train.

    There's many different styles around here. I don't usually fare too well on one with "psychological" portions which will come in one of two forms:

    Form 1: There is a statement and you must fill in Strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree, or strongly disagree. How they score that is beyond me.

    Form 2: They give you two statements and you have to select what most appeals to you.

    Give me a test with just math and English only and I will be a top score for sure.
