Red face ethical questions that cops ask thesmelves on duty

I am a graduate student in criminal justice - forensic science. In my criminal justice ethics class I have been asked to create a list of ethical questions I may ask myself when confronted with an ethical dilemma in the line of duty. The dilemma is not specified, but i am to create a list and revise it as I come up with new questions. I have came up with many on my own, but was wondering if as police officers, I may be presented with some new questions I have not thought of. Here are some of my questions:

Does my course of action seem logical or make sense to me?
Does the solution I choose pass the test of sportsmanship?
Will the results be beneficial to all, or just myself?
What effect will the decision have on others?
What effect will it have on me both personally and professionally?
After I have made the decision, how well do I think of myself when I look back at what I
    have done?
What difference would it make if everyone, even the media, know about my decision?

    Thank you for any thoughts!

    Welcome to the site.

For the most part , we are not interested in doing someones homework for them. And....you will not be able to quote any of us as we don't use our actual names or department.

Have you considered the time honored tradition of talking to and or meeting with a local officer who can give you his/her name and could better answer your question based on state laws , DA policies and departmental policies ??

I am not asking anyone to do my homework, I was asking for the opinion of an officer, since I am not an officer. If this is the attitude of this site, then never mind and no one needs to give me any insight as an officer. I will not ask for any comments that are not willingly given. You are an officer to help people and to serve the public, this is still who I am, maybe you should reconsider how you look at people. You are not better than anyone else just because you are an officer. You were once a rookie or a student and looked to others for advice - don't worry I will never post to this site again since you are so stuck on yourself and refuse help to those who POLITELY ask for it.

You were given an assignment and are seeking input from officers on what other questions, if any, should be added to the list you already compiled. How is that not seeking help with your homework?

We get a lot of questions like these, and the usual answer is to tell people we don’t do their homework for them, but if they need to speak with a cop they can go to their local PD and talk to someone there.

Feel free to lose the attitude you displayed in your second post. Don’t go off on something you know nothing about. Stick around a learn a bit before you decide what this site is like and what the members are like.

Are you currently on a diet or have you done something to deserve a cookie treat?

Does the solution I choose pass the test of sportsmanship?
Are you going to be meeting up with anyone after? If so, are you going to buy enough for your 1 car partners, especially knowing they like cookies too?

Will the results be beneficial to all, or just myself?
Are you buying cookies for more people than just yourself or just yourself, you selfish bastage?

What effect will the decision have on others?
Has everyone else already eaten? Do they like 7-11 cookies? Is it your turn to buy snacks? Do they like either oatmeal and/or chocolate chip?

What effect will it have on me both personally and professionally?
Are you going to work off that cookie later on after shift? Are you going to be eating cookies instead of answering calls? Are you going to drop or smear cookie on your uniform and ruin your appearance?

After I have made the decision, how well do I think of myself when I look back at what I
    have done?
Did you buy/eat that cookie because you NEEDED it or just WANTED it? Do you feel any shame at all for not buying your sister car some cookies? Did your parents teach you to eat in front of others and not share? Just how many cookies did you buy/eat? At what point would your cookie eating be viewed as Excessive or Unreasonable?

What difference would it make if everyone, even the media, know about my decision?
Do you feel that everyone needs to know about your cookie fetish or is it nobody else's business since you are a consenting adult and there are no laws prohibiting you from buying/eating 7-11 cookies?

    CHIPOTLE TIME! haha

I will never understand some folks who think after being rude that others will be motivated to provide any assistance for their questions. Being rude never gets you what you want.

This thread serves no further purpose after the OP's comment above, closing this one.
